Data in two places
editWhy not convert this article to be a Navigation aid to go to the full list of airports for a selected area? This is what is frequently done for large lists. Makes updates easier since they are only in a single place. Vegaswikian 19:02, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Given no comments, I will add a navigation template to all of the states and related pages then replace this page with only the navigation template. Vegaswikian 20:06, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
I am currently updating each state list so that the section for "Commercial Service - Primary" (over 10,000 annual passenger boardings) can be transcluded here. That will allow keeping this list without having two sets of data, since all edits will occur in the state lists. To date, 23 states and all of the territories/commonwealths have been updated and transcluded. Once this project is complete, the U.S. list can be converted into a single sortable table. That will allow sorting the list by enplanements or any other field, something not possible if this page just pointed to the state lists. -- Zyxw (talk) 20:46, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Proposed page move
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the proposal was no consensus. JPG-GR (talk) 23:14, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
As per this discussion, I'd like to move this page, to make way for a page much like List of airports in Canada. This list is a bit disingenuous, because the way it is set up, it can never be a complete "List of airports in the United States"/ - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 03:57, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Comment. Neither support nor opposition nor a suggestion, just a question really: If you're planning a complete list like Canada, why not just restructure this page under the current title without a move, or isn't that practical? I'm wondering if two articles are necessary. Station1 (talk) 04:55, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, it would seem like a shame to not save the list in this format somewhere. I think a lot of work went into formating multiple lists to allow for this type of transcluding. - Trevor MacInnis (Contribs) 14:20, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm opposed to changing the current format of this page (see my comments below), but if it is done then the current list should be preserved under a different name as suggested. It does serve a purpose that the individual state lists do not, one of which is being able to compare passenger boardings for airports in different U.S. states without the need to maintain a separate list (all edits occur in the state lists). -- Zyxw (talk) 17:58, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose. The content of List of airports in the United States is not all that different from List of airports in Canada. Because of the number of airports, both include links to other lists: by state in the U.S. and by name, airport code or province in Canada. Both also include direct links to major airports: NPIAS primary airports in the U.S. (over 10,000 boardings per year) and NAS airports in Canada (over 200,000 passengers per year). The only real difference is the formatting and the fact that there are many more NPIAS primary airports in the U.S. than NAS airports in Canada. -- Zyxw (talk) 17:58, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
- Support move. Currently this is a specific list of airports in the US similar to List of international airports in Canada. It would be better to have this similar to other list of airports. CambridgeBayWeather Have a gorilla 14:13, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

To address some of the concerns mentioned above and in the discussion at Wikipedia talk: WikiProject Airports #Airport list style, I have placed the template of links to the state lists at the top of the page. The second section now has links to the portions of List of airports by ICAO code containing U.S. airports. The third section contains the list of primary airports. -- Zyxw (talk) 04:47, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Role
editWhat does PR represent in the table? It is not indicated what it stands for. Shouldn't this be added? I would add it if I knew what it represented, but unfortunately I don't.

Update to 2008 data
edit- Please note that preliminary 2009 data is now available here: [1] -Kgwo1972 (talk) 19:31, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Also, updates are done on each individual state page. For example, I updated the List of airports in Kansas with the preliminary 2009 data, and it appeared automatically on this page. As a result, different states now have data from different years -- the List of airports in Alabama is updated for 2008, and that the List of airports in Colorado has 2007 data. I will change the language on the front page to make it clear that these discrepancies exist. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 14:53, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
I think the table should be updated to 2008 data, but I don't have time to put all the [[]]] in place. If someone knows how to do this automatically, please help out.

Passenger Numbers
editThe figures in this list aren't exactly very consistant with those given in the articles themselves - the passenger numbers in the articlese appear to be much higher than in this list. Something obviously went wrong. For example, LA International airport, according to this list, says there are 28.542.151 passengers per year (2009) while the article Los Angeles International Airport states that there were 59.861.477 passengers that year. --Krawunsel (talk) 12:57, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

I agree with the above comment. Whoever was responsible for messing up this table, it was some time ago, and it is just awful now. Someone PLEASE fix this so it doesn't look so terrible. why someone did all this and then left it this way...I'll just never understand. About 6 months ago, I looked at this table all the time, and it was so user-friendly! Now it's terrible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.153.156.222 (talk) 22:34, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Looks to me like some template within the table was modified. If you switch through this article's history it will always look broken in a similar way (even version as old as 2010). --178.0.24.174 (talk) 17:28, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
- Fixed. It was not a problem with this page, but was caused by some recent edits in three of the individual U.S. state lists. -- Zyxw (talk) 17:18, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
The table is broken, as the sections for Florida, Hawaii, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico appear to use the entire article on airports in those regions rather than just pulling the data on primary airports. 23.28.89.18 (talk) 12:18, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Primary airports with fewer than 10k enplanements
editThe article says primary airports have >10k passenger boardings but includes several that have fewer than that. I would guess they keep their status even if they drop below that magic number, but I'm not sure and it's confusing. If anyone knows the answer, please add a note or clarification. thx Seananony (talk) 00:20, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
