The Lion King (2019 film) - an animated feature film?

edit

I think that The Lion King (2019 film) should not be in the list of animated feature films. Favreau's staff is very clear about his film: it is not an animated movie.

"But is Favreau's adaptation a live-action film or an animated one? So far it doesn't seem like there will be any human characters in the film, unlike Mowgli in The Jungle Book, but Lion King's VFX supervisor Rob Legato previously said of his work on the Favreau-directed Jungle Book, “I don’t consider this an animated movie,” he said. “I consider this just a movie, and this happened to be the best way to make it. We [made] it comfortable for Jon Favreau to come in and be able to direct as if it was a live-action film.”

In the staff, there are not even any animators mentionned, such as in the other animated films but just a VFX supervisor. If we include this feature, we will soon include many features only because there is a little part animated. So I really think this film should not be included in this list.

We already have this discussion several years ago when Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants was removed of the list in 2014 because most of the film was made with live action techniques. It should be reincluded if we include now The Lion King (2019 film). Same thing about Who Framed Roger Rabbit in 1988. What will be the limit ?

Thanks to all of you to give your points of view. Noyeux (talk) 19:53, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

IMDb lists a number of animators.
I'm not familiar with Miniscule; what was the reasoning for not considering it animated? It appears to have won a César Award for Best Animated Film.
Anyway, my view: If the characters and images are generated by computers, it's animated, period. Trivialist (talk) 21:35, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
On the Film work over 1000 Animator for sure, in Jungle Book around 900, its the lack of Category Films on the Wiki List, like traditional Animation Film Technique (Theres hundreds of Technique with many Lost), but Today even Painted Films are heavy use of Computer Renderings and Software all in Digital, in the end the Lion King 2019 will alter badly, when i look Avatar today it looks like a Video Game in some Scenes, but when i look old Animations i see even today new drawn Details. Resident Evil are too Animation Films or Space Pirate Captain Harlock, the Video Game, Photorealistic, and Film CG will be smellted together in Future for certain Styled Projects. And when Jon something say in Press then its PR, look his Marvel Films, sure its a new Standart but it will be CG in the end on many Scenes. And the Lion King is full CG. Maybe another Definition. Call it Photo-realistic Animation CG Film, its a Idea for a new future Trend and Category, and it include only Films with 90 CGI, do you known Balto? It has Real human Characters at beginn, and i think its a Animation Film too. If some part are not Animated it doesnt mean the Film is not Animated. Garfield is no Animation Film directly, not even close a Feature or Alvin but the Characters. In Lion King all is animated, and plz consider, look the Job announcement for Animation Film Techniques like Ballerina, theres too VFX Jobs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.202.58.208 (talk) 23:29, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
A last addition, this is a Encyclopedia Site, not what Disney or Jon think it is, but we will see soon byself.
Myself think a Animation Feature is or stand for full lenght, and where the Animation lead the Film or Characters. Rogger Rabbit would fall also in that but also for me in a Gimmick Trick Animation Comedy Film. But in Garfield you will see many stuff like Swans Castle Lakes Butler etc. Garfield is the not even the Red string. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.202.58.208 (talk) 23:48, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
Miniscule use Photorealistic Pictures of Mud, Grass if i am correct. but the Animated Characters Lead the Film over the full lenght.
Disney's Dinosaur also used animated characters on live-action backgrounds. Trivialist (talk) 03:08, 22 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
You are right. There are many animators which have participated in The Lion King (2019 film) refering to the list in Imdb but I am still not convinced. If we let this film which looks like a live action film and who wants to be seen as a live action movie and not an animated movie, we need to determine precisely the criteria for a movie to be included or not here. Another example in 2018, Peter Rabbit (film) was not accepted as it was a live-action/animation hybrid. According to me, a film could only be included here if most of the film is an animated feature and want to be seen as an animated feature. It is the reason that for me, The Lion King (2019 film) should not be in this list. In my definition, hybrids should not be allowed too. Noyeux (talk) 06:16,\ 23 April 2019 (UTC)
Your reasoning for Peter Rabbit makes sense, and matches mine. However, The Lion King is still created through computer animation, however realistic it looks. Trivialist (talk) 01:12, 24 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned references in List of animated feature films of 2019

edit

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of animated feature films of 2019's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 13:01, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

The animation technique of The bears' Famous invasion of Sicily is traditionally animation not CGI animation, please correct it. 5.213.106.236 (talk) 09:22, 2 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
