Non-documented Cathedrals
editA few cathedrals belonging to Pentecostals have recently sprung up particularly in South India. One among them, is the Indian Pentecostal Assembly situated in Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu). However, there is no documentary evidence of the same. If users are able to secure tangible evidence, then it may be appropriate to add them too to this article. - Tootleby (talk) 09:07, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
Order of denominations
editFor lists of cathedrals, the convention is that for each country, the denominations are ordered based on the no. of members of each denomination. In India, this is, from largest to smallest: Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox. Please follow this order. Thanks The Discoverer (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
St. Stephen's Orthodox Syrian Church, Ranchi
editSt. Stephen's Orthodox Syrian Church, Ranchi is a Parish under the Malankara (Indian) Orthodox Syrian Church, Diocese of Kolkata. The parish was founded in October, 1964 after the name of St. Stephen, the first martyr of Christianity.
The church since its inception has been a great source of solace and succor and a place of worship for all the faith holders. The church is spontaneously engaged in rendering philanthropic services to the hapless and underprivileged sections of the society. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.93.182.221 (talk) 16:22, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
Tabulation suggestion , with few references
editHi, I suggest , that article would be much helpful to navigate, if it is tabulated, currently article looks like a directory of Churches in India, also there are numerous of red links to article, they need to be worked on.Junosoon (talk) 04:13, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Junosoon, thanks for your note. I am open to your idea, but I feel that the present layout has the following advantages:
- It presents the list arranged in a structured manner, first divided into denominations, then into constituent churches, then into provinces and dioceses. At a glance, one can see the hierarchical organisation.
- As a result of this arrangement mentioned above, it becomes easy to navigate to a particular group by looking it up in the contents box at the top of the article and clicking on the hyperlink. This, I guess would not be possible if the entire list was in a table.
- This structure is the same as that followed in List of Catholic dioceses in India and List of Catholic bishops of India (for the Catholic cathedrals, that is), so it is good to have that uniformity.
- This free-text layout enables us to have images running along the right side of the page. I don't know if that would be manageable with tables.
- What are your thoughts regarding these points? The Discoverer (talk) 06:00, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
Hi, The Discoverer, please have a look at List of the largest Protestant churches in the United States and List of largest Orthodox cathedrals, for images layout, I think the layout looks more better here, also the number of red links, makes the article look incomplete. Secondly the hierarchical organisation
, I think we need to content on it, for the readers to known that the list is in that order, with few more sources, for verification of list. Thanks.Junosoon (talk) 12:35, 11 February 2017 (UTC)
- I feel that having a single huge table with around 250 entries like List of the largest Protestant churches in the United States becomes really unwieldy, and we don't have figures like capacity, area, size, year, etc. readily available which it would be interesting to sort it by. Unfortunately, there isn't much information available about cathedrals in India; this is one of the reasons we have so many red links. For some dioceses, it is difficult to even ascertain the name of the cathedral. The List of largest Orthodox cathedrals is much better, the reason being that there aren't too many entries, and tables like this are suitable for a maximum of around 25 entries.
- Suppose we have a table in each section that we currently have, something like this:
Ecclesiastical Province of Bombay
editEcclesiastical Province of Imphal
editDiocese | Cathedral | Location | Image |
---|---|---|---|
Archdiocese of Imphal | St. Joseph's Cathedral | Imphal | |
Diocese of Kohima | Mary Help of Christians Cathedral | Kohima |
- What do you think of this? The Discoverer (talk) 07:33, 12 February 2017 (UTC)
Hi, This looks better, considering the fact, and not all of the names Cathedrals, need to be added, that was my say, when I wrote the list looks like a directory, we can add notable Cathedrals, in the list as you have suggested. Thanks.Junosoon (talk) 05:40, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
- I am really not in favour of removing any cathedrals from the list. It doesn't make sense to me to delete entries from a complete list and make it incomplete just because of redlinks. The Discoverer (talk) 14:40, 14 February 2017 (UTC)
