Selection Criteria
Per the Common Selection Criteria for Stand-alone Lists in the Manual of Style, I believe this list should be limited to "Every entry meets the notability criteria," meaning: works that have their own article, works whose creator/author has their own article (which, ideally, contains a description of the work in question), and works for which multiple reliable sources with nontrivial coverage are presented, such that "it is reasonable to expect an article could be forthcoming". Currently, about a dozen entries would be removed if the above criteria was followed. Any objections?

cyberpunk & post-rock
the urban decay themes in post-rock (most famously gybe!) are derived mostly from cyberpunk.
you also need to put a skinny puppy disc in there, too dark park and/or last rights work best, as well as a ministry disc (the mind is a terrible thing to taste or land of rape and honey). i mean, that was the apex of the concept, musically. further, most of those industrial/ebm acts are not worth mentioning in the context of having the puppy and ministry put in (the left spine down link is basically an advertisement for an entirely irrelevant band) and should be eliminated. the warren zevon release should also be replaced by daydream nation, because he completely ripped them off. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.48.181.129 (talk) 14:43, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
Dream series by WT Quick.
Hi, could you please add in the Dream series, Dreams of Flesh and Sand, Dreams of God and Men, and Dreams of Life and Death (aka Singularities). I believe they were an important Cyberpunk book series at the time and they should be included. As I am not wikipedia editor, I humbly ask if you could have a look, and indeed read them, and include them in the history. Thanks. 14.202.233.174 (talk) 17:32, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Time to articulate inclusion criteria
Right now it's a list of anything any editor says is cyberpunk. It's first of all pretty standard for a list of examples like this (rather than an exhaustive list) to require notability as part of the inclusion criteria (see the standard common selection criteria guideline). Beyond that we need to have a way to ensure things that are on the list are cyberpunk. Since Wikipedia's rules about original research prohibit editors making that judgment, I think it also only makes sense to, per how the rest of Wikipedia works, require additions be verifiable in reliable sources which call the work "cyberpunk". — Rhododendrites talk \\ 16:49, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
Should we trim this list to works actually cyberpunk and not just cyberpunk-inspired?
I think this list is probably too long anyway so I'd suggest removing all movies that aren't really cyberpunk - even though they're inspired by cyberpunk and often listed among many cyberpunk works.
A good example of what kind of movies I'm referring to here would be Terminator series which was added in a recent edit.
The benefits of doing so would be a sharper focus on the topic, preventing misconceptions and making this list (by it being a bit shorter) more useful. (Aside of this there are tons of works which aren't listed yet.)
--Fixuture (talk) 16:26, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
- If you think the terminator series is not cyberpunk (I don't think it is) then undo that edit.. they were JUST added! As far as which other items should be removed, I think you'd have to discuss them one at a time if they've been on the list a while, either people don't care, don't know, or enough people think they are cyberpunk. Centerone (talk) 03:14, 9 May 2015 (UTC)
- Okay I removed the Terminator entries - below is a list of movies that I'm not entirely sure about as I haven't yet watched them in full and that probably need some discussion or feedback from others:
- THX 1138
- The Terminal Man
- Logan's Run
- Saturn 3
- Runaway
- A.I. Artificial Intelligence
- After going through the list it seems like most movies are actually have their place here - however the sheer amount of works that are just remotely cyberpunk-related / overlap with the genre to a comparably negligible degree fades down the true cornerstones of the genre (like Blade Runner).
- Maybe there is a way to highlight more cyberpunk movies (like bold or by extra columns after converting the list to a table etc). For example CyberpunkReview.com has the assessments "Degree of Cyberpunk Visuals" and "Correlation to Cyberpunk Themes" example. Or alternatively the list could be for more cyberpunk movies while the Category:Cyberpunk films is for all cyberpunk-related movies - or the other way around...
- On a related note the other subsections "Novels", "Music" and "Related nonfiction" are really just infinitesimal fractions of the genre's output. I'm going to add a bunch to each of these sections soon but they still require much more work - especially if the movies list in contrast to these sections also includes movies that just partly overlap with the genre.

Removed entries
User:TheOldJacobite just removed a large chunk of entries from the list. I think such comprehensive removals should have an entry on the talk page for discussion and so that people can find these so that they might add some of those back in the case that they find that it was removed erroneously and find a reference for it...
--Fixuture (talk) 21:58, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
- I explained my reasoning in my edit summaries and the material can be easily recovered in the edit history. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 02:46, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- Some of the removals should have just been marked as reference needed, not really removed, especially for those obvious and canonical. Some others are rightly removed. (Guest, Fra)

- @93.138.68.51: You could list the ones you think just needed a reference here or readd them to the article directly if you find references for them. --Fixuture (talk) 12:48, 26 December 2016 (UTC)

Inclusion criteria
Brought this up two years ago. Section was archived with no responses, and it doesn't look like there's been something implemented since then. So repeating it here, and will act on it in a few days.
Right now it's a list of anything any editor says is cyberpunk (i.e. WP:OR/WP:INDISCRIMINATE). It's first of all pretty standard for a list of examples like this (rather than an exhaustive list) to require notability as part of the inclusion criteria (see the standard common selection criteria guideline, for example). Beyond that we need to have a way to ensure things that are on the list are cyberpunk. - I very strongly agree. This article needs reliable sources and we need to remove anything that is not sourced. ---The Old JacobiteThe '45 14:37, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
Ok, time to implement this, I suppose. May take some time. I'm going to move some questionable entries to the talk page here. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 13:12, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
Inclusion debatable
- Web of Angels by John M. Ford (1980)
- Described as "proto-cyberpunk" in several places but I've not yet seen a source that calls it cyberpunk. unsure whether that means it should be included.

New Rose Hotel
Is there a reason New Rose Hotel was left off of the list of movies? Evileeyore (talk) 02:15, 5 August 2019 (UTC)
"How can it not know what it is?"
This list of films betrays a profound lack of understanding of cyberpunk's narrative conventions or visual characteristics.
2600:1700:C9B0:1BE0:3D0C:3673:A6EC:1C30 (talk) 00:25, 4 March 2020 (UTC)
- It definitely does but most of the entries are sourced because as soon as some review as much as vaguely suggests a film might have some cyberpunk properties, it immediately becomes cyberpunk and is added here. Just like The Fifth Element. Read the review, it barely says "space opera with cyberpunk backbeat" but its enough to deem it cyberpunk - although anyone can see Fifth Element has absolutely nothing in common with Cyberpunk except maybe one or two very superficial similarities. And then there is District Nine - unsourced. This list is absolutely laughable but then again so is probably every list of any fiction genre in Wikipedia. --Nomad (talk) 16:44, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
