I have done some research. The Govt. of TN website is here:

http://www.tn.gov.in/districts.htm

It says "31 districts". The extra district in the article is no. 32, Tiruppur.

The correct mapping of the district names to the numbering in the map in the article is:

1 Chennai

2 Coimbatore

3 Cuddalore

4 Dharmapuri

5 Dindigul

6 Erode

7 Kanchipuram

8 Kanyakumari

9 Karur

10 Krishnagiri

11 Madurai

12 Nagapattinam

13 Namakkal

14 Perambalur

15 Pudukkottai

16 Ramanathapuram

17 Salem

18 Sivaganga

19 Thanjavur

20 Nilgiris

21 Theni

22 Thoothukudi

23 Tiruchirapalli

24 Tirunelveli

25 Thiruvallur

26 Thiruvannamalai

27 Thiruvarur

28 Vellore

29 Villupuram

30 Virudhunagar

31 Ariyalur

In the official map, it appears that the 14 of the Wikipedia map is actually two districts, Perambalur and Ariyalur. Thus the Wikipedia map needs to be updated.

Further, to the east of Thiruvarur (27) is an unlabelled district. It is actually part of 12, Nagapattinam which is comprised of two disjoint regions split by the Karaikkal district of Pondicherry. Binand (talk) 07:55, 24 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Many geographical areas of the Tamilnadu State are wrong, actually Perambalur is one of the smallest district in TN but it has been given a larger Area !! Frozenprakash (talk) 04:11, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Map in infobox needs updating

edit

Apparently, five new districts were created in 2019 (according to the article):

  • Kallakurichi district split from Viluppuram
  • Tenkasi district split from Tirunelveli district
  • Chengalpattu district split from Kanchipuram district
  • Tirupattur and Ranipet districts split from Vellore district

The map in the infobox, File:Tamil Nadu district map.svg needs to be updated to reflect this. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:54, 23 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
