10,000 BC
editHi,
I corrected the link to the movie 10,000 BC (film), but I don't think that dinosaurs appear in that movie: 1st, I don't remember having seen any (but it's been a while since I watched that film), and 2nd, in 10,000 BC dinosaurs have been extinct for some 66 million years. I do remember other (now extinct) animals such as mammoths and sabretooth animals (and the article about the movie backs that), but no dinosaurs.
Should 10,000 BC be deleted from the list? Or is the list generally about films featuring extinct animals? (Then it should be renamed accordingly.) Or are my memories of the movie wrong? (As I said, I've seen the movie but it was several years ago.)
And regarding Tarzan (2013 film): I didn't watch it, but Tarzan and dinosaurs? Really? Please someone who knows that film should check that, too.

- Tauriel-1, this is not a good list because we do not have inline citations to verify each item, like List of films set on Mars does. I've removed the films that you've mentioned, but the whole list could use a "Ref." or "Description" column that includes an inline citation for each film. Proposals
editIs it possible/acceptable to add a column with poster art for easy identification? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.138.16.118 (talk) 01:35, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
- Unfortunately not, since posters are non-free images. Wikipedia's policy is against having a gallery of such images. Alternatively, you could Google "dinosaur movies" and get a reel of films across the top of search results. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 02:15, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Documentaries
editHello! Someone, who will have time, add some documentaries, please. --Дейноніх (talk) 20:14, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
Gamera removed, that's fine but why no Godzilla?
editGamera is a fictitious monster, but so is Godzilla. The original Godzilla film at least had a trilobite and photos of dinosaurs, but Godzilla was not a dinosaur. Neither was Gorgo. We need to dump these monster movie characters unless there is an actual dinosaur shown in the film. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:32, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed. Gamera is a turtle. Godzilla was described as a dinosaur in one later film, and given a dinosaur name, but obviously is not a dinosaur as described in the literature (fire-breather kind of gives it away). Randy Kryn (talk) 22:22, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- I removed all the Japanese Monster films that I could remember. The original Godzilla had a trilobite in the scenes and that is peripheral dinosaur stuff. Just being described as a dinosaur in dubbing does not make it so. I think readers here are looking for actual pre-history earth creatures in film. Fyunck(click) (talk) 22:54, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Good call. Randy Kryn (talk) 00:14, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hello. I noticed this discussion only now. Please, read this my reply which clearly explains my position and do not remove these movies in the future. Дейноніх (talk) 16:14, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Read it and disagree entirely. Tell us all what clade and family of dinosaur. They do not breath fire or have jets. And I don't care what the movie may call if it's over 200 feet tall.Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:49, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- So you don't care about official information and can't even form a good sentence. I understand, I will ask for the help the page's project in resolving your vandalism. Дейноніх (talk) 20:03, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- You find us all some "official information" from paleontologists about Gyaos. Lets see, per monster lore it is 219 to 278 feet tall with a wingspan of 564 feet. It also flies at mach 1 and is able to fire a Sonic beam from its mouth. Now which dinosaur would this be? There is zero chance it is a dinosaur. It is a Japanese invented monster for kids to have fun with. And I will open this up to the general Wikipedia populous to comment on. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:18, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Are you a kid? Дейноніх (talk) 20:28, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Wow, good luck with that complaint. And I'm not the one who thinks Gamera and Godzilla and other Japanese monsters are dinosaurs. This article is very specific about what it is talking about in films, and 300 foot tall turtles and 278 foot tall sonic beam monsters and 400 foot tall fire-breathing mutants are not it. They belong on a child's giant monster article to have fun with. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:38, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for wishing me luck. I'm sure I will have it. I'm not the one who is an internet troll and a Wikipedia vandal. Дейноніх (talk) 20:45, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I can add more templates to your talk page of personal attacks and not good faith if you'd like. I'm sure an administrator will take a look if I do. I'd suggest moving on from this and sticking to the Japanese and other giant monster articles. Fyunck(click) (talk) 20:55, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Look who's talking. I'd be more than happy if an administrator looked into this. Дейноніх (talk) 20:58, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

We could change the article name and scope to "List of films featuring dinosaurs and giant mutant movie monsters". Then the additions would likely fit. Someone could then make a new article with only real or attempted real prehistoric beasts. But when folks come to this article as I did the other day, and we see bunches of mutant giant movie monsters, we can't even wade through them all to find movies with real dinosaurs. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:01, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- I heard internet trolls like you become very happy when you write nonsense online. Whatever, I don't care. I have more important things to do. Дейноніх (talk) 21:06, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Wonderful helpful dialog. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:16, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- We could even change it to ""List of films featuring dinosaurs and giant movie monsters" and leave out the term "mutant." I think it would encompass all that is here but allow monsters from "War of the Gargantuas" and "It Came From Beneath the Sea" to be included. The thing is we already have an article for giant monsters at List of films featuring giant monsters. This is the only list article whose premise is for dinosaurs. It's why I think it is best to leave this as actual dinosaurs and prehistoric beasts only, not fantasy. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:35, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, you want «actual dinosaurs». Then let's remove 65, because these dinosaurs don't exist, Jurassic Park, because dinosaurs are inaccurate, Jurassic World, because it features hybrids, Land Before Time, because dinosaurs talk, or this list may just be deleted. Super logical decision. Дейноніх (talk) 07:51, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
- We know many are inaccurate. It's been awhile but I think many in the movie 10,000 years BC are inaccurate... or the original King Kong. But they try to be real dinosaurs. Same with The Lost World of 1960. They used lizards with glue-on tusks and spikes. They tried to be real dinosaurs and even called them Tyrannosaurus and Brontosaurus. Special effects were poor back then. Make it clear in the intro that we are encompassing those creatures. I said that even in the original Godzilla they pick up a real prehistoric animal in a trilobite. The model is not made correctly but it should be in this list because they made some minimal effort. It's the Toho Godzillas and Gameras and their 300 foot tall counterparts of fantasy that would be best left out. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:08, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

Wow. Just wow. This is an absolute no-brainer: no made-up monsters allowed. If a film does not depict what is intended to be a representation of a creature that actually existed, then it has no place on the list. Anybody arguing that Godzilla is a dinosaur should probably stay away from dinosaur-related articles. – 2.O.Boxing 09:26, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
What Counts?
editNew here, does anything that has a prehistoric animal shown on screen at all count? Because there are some dinosaurs in the peripherals in Monsters University (I think; it has been a while since I last saw it) but those are very minor appearances. Robot 0123456789 (talk) 01:00, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- I think we need to tweak the intro in the lead as it can be a bit confusing. Does the film nee to "feature" dinosaurs? Is it an appearance? I think it should include all prehistoric beasts so we don't need to make additional articles. If we have enough I guess we could make sections of Cenozoic, Mesozoic, and Paleozoic creatures... but that may not be necessary. The original Godzilla has a Paleozoic trilobite in it, but nothing else... just a tiny scene. What do others think that might edit this article? I simply dropped by and noticed ridiculous space monsters that were not dinosaurs or their brethren but I can help to define the list. I would suggest putting animated beasts in a separate section. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:05, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- "I think it should include all prehistoric beasts" That will require a change in scope. Mammoths can be described as prehistoric beasts, but have nothing to do with dinosaurs. Dimadick (talk) 17:53, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- I agree. Perhaps a title change to "...dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals." And we should simplify the lead to: This is a list of films that feature non-avian dinosaurs (excluding modern birds) and other prehistoric animals (pre-holocene epoch).
- Seems fine as is, as a name change would include mammoths which are greatly different than dinosaurs, the principal topic of the list. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:46, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
- I think this list should restrict itself to films prominently featuring dinosaurs. In other words, films where dinosaurs (defined as non-avian dinosaurs meant to represent some real species or some approximation thereof) play a significant role in the plot, as opposed to merely making short cameos. 68.71.166.188 (talk) 06:12, 13 June 2023 (UTC)

Alphabetical or by year?
editOther 'Films featuring...' lists sort by year, earliest to latest, which makes for an interesting read. Should this one be chronological as well? Randy Kryn (talk) 13:33, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- To be honest, when I look at this list I want it to be alphabetically. It's much easier to find the films this way. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:23, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
Does "Mrs. Doubtfire" belong here?
editI know there's a kid playing with toy dinosaurs, and they're of some significance to the plot, but they are very much toy dinosaurs and remain so. Does this film really belong on this list? Glengrail (talk) 04:29, 13 October 2023 (UTC)
