US on 5 continents?
editThe section List of former transcontinental countries#Since 1700 lists the US as being on five continents. Two of these are dubious: South America and Africa. The link from the Africa assertion goes to Tristan da Cunha, an island in the middle of the Atlantic whose article says that the first 4 settlers were Americans but does not say that the island was ever claimed or held by the US. One link from the South America assertion goes to Panama, which is in North, not South, America, while the other link goes to a map of the Caribbean without mentioning any islands near South America.
I propose we cut these two, leaving North America, Asia (Philippines), and Oceania (Hawaii). Loraof (talk) 19:55, 25 July 2019 (UTC)

Claims recognized by no one else
editThis article should not include claims not generally recognized, such as in particular the claims to portions of Antarctica. Loraof (talk) 02:42, 26 July 2019 (UTC)
Central America as a continent?
editWhy is Central America listed as a continent in some of the entries as opposed to North America? They are not separate continents. Is there a consensus to treat it as such? Mason7512 (talk) 21:43, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
