Talk:List of interstate wars since 1945

Two issues

edit

Keepcalmandchill, XTheBedrockX, others interested, two points I wanted to raise:

  • It seems problematic for us to bold the "aggressor state" in most of these conflicts, when essentially every single one is highly complex issue where large numbers of RS may see it differently. In a few cases, a clear aggressor might have consensus in reliable sources, but that is not the case for many of these wars. It's much simpler to just remove the bolding and let readers click through and read the more detailed full articles if they want to understand who the "aggressor" was.
  • The labels for "Victorious party" and "Defeated party" make sense for wars which have concluded and had a clear outcome, but many wars/conflicts did not have a clear victor and loser. For those wars which are still ongoing, it is obviously a little odd to slot one party into the Victorious column and another into the Defeated when they are still fighting. I suggest simply renaming both columns to State(s) in conflict, and perhaps adding another column labeled Result, which could provide slightly more room to note complex outcomes.

If there is no discussion here, I plan to unilaterally implement some changes addressing the problems beginning in the next few days. Please discuss those changes here if there are alternate suggestions. —Ganesha811 (talk) 22:41, 2 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
You make a fair point, and I fully understand changing the format to something less black-and-white. No issues with that here. XTheBedrockX (talk) 07:59, 6 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Remove items not described as wars in reliable sources

edit

I propose that we remove clashes and conflicts not referred to as a "war" in at least 3 separate reliable sources. This list currently includes a number of interstate conflicts and clashes which, while notable, have not been called wars in any reliable sources. They should be removed or moved to a separate list from the main one. —Ganesha811 (talk) 01:55, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

As I have received no response, I have WP:BOLDLY removed some items - happy to discuss here if there is any objection. —Ganesha811 (talk) 15:35, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
