Talk:List of killings by law enforcement officers in Minnesota

Notability requirement?

I have concerns that this list should only contain events that rise to notability standards. In order to meet that standard, an officer-involved killing must be somehow unusual and widely reported. The only way it seems these cases achieve that degree of notability is if they are controversial or unjustified. That means that, by the fact of having that standard, this list will always be grossly slanted, disproportionately representing incidents of cops behaving (or being seen as behaving) unjustly. That could lead the reader to the potentially false conclusion that police killings are usually unjustified, if not outright murder. I think especially since BLM came to prominence the racial representation of the victims might also be similarly skewed, portraying Minnesota's cops as both murderous and racist. I'm not saying that would be incorrect (I haven't found a decent source for that kind of info), but I do think the list should represent the phenomenon, not the bias of what makes the events newsworthy. I think there's a policy or guideline covering undue weight? Is this list giving undue weight to cops unjustly killing black people? That's fine as its own topic, and I believe it's a true phenomenon, but there should be a NPV source that shows what cops are actually doing. Dcs002 (talk) 02:43, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

The first sentence reads, "This is a list of notable homicides, the act of a person or persons killing another, committed by law enforcement officers in the U.S. state of Minnesota." Notability is hyperlinked to Wikipedia:Notability. Presumably this list is for events that are notable enough to have their own Wikipedia article.
