List of mammals of Montenegro

edit

This article need to be split into two. I moved this, and now we need List of mammals of Montenegro, but mammals needs to be split also. And we need some good sources for this. --Tadijaspeaks 15:46, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm listing the mammals of Serbia, Montenegro, and Kosovo below according to Mitchell-Jones et al. (1999, The Atlas of European Mammals). Because of the way their maps are created, I cannot always clearly see from which country a record originates (for example, a record may be for a region that includes parts of both Kosovo and Macedonia, and I can't see from which country it is). Species that are clearly recorded from a country are indicated with "x"; ambiguous records are indicated with "?"; absence with "–"). I don't care whether or not Kosovo is included in this list, or whether or not it gets its own list, but I'm including it for the sake of completeness. There are several species that may occur in Kosovo but not (the rest of) Serbia.

That's something to start from, but not enough to make the two (or three) lists. Several records are ambiguous and need to be cleared up, and there have been some changes in classification since 1999; for example, some newly recognized bat species of Pipistrellus, Plecotus, and Myotis are likely to occur in Serbia or Montenegro. I'll look for more sources. Ucucha 16:40, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
