President of BurundiPierre Nkurunziza, died unexpectedly on 8 June 2020, aged 55, at the Fiftieth Anniversary Hospital in Karuzi.[1] The Burundian government gave his cause of death as a heart attack,[1] but some in the media suspect he died of COVID-19.[2] A week earlier, The Standard reported his wife had flown without him to Nairobi, Kenya, for COVID-19 treatment.[2][3] Seven national days of mourning were announced following his death.[4]
Pranab Mukherjee the former President of India passed away on 31 August 2020. India declared a 7 days national mourning and Bangladesh declared a one-day mourning on the demise of the former president.
Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III died on June 24, 2021, due to renal disease, secondary to diabetes. President Rodrigo Duterte then announced a 10-day mourning period from June 24 to July 3, 2021.[5]
