Do american pro wrestlers and bands count as famous people?--Jirate 00:55, 4 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

The test is whether they are notable within our criteria. If they are, they should have an article in wikipedia and can be listed here. --Rodhullandemu 17:35, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

On this list is it just people born in Liverpool or people who grew up in Liverpool. E.g Pete Best born in Chennai. Tsange (talk) 13:16, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

The title is deliberately ambiguous (ie: "from") to allow entries for both people who have been born in Merseyside and who grew up there. Nev1 (talk) 13:23, 9 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
what about people who self-identify as coming "from" Liverpool, e.g. Cherie Booth? To deny such people is akin to telling someone they are "not black", for the sake of extreme example. In other words, this cannot be policed at all. Anyone who claims to come "from Liverpool" should be included whatever the facts or their birth certificate says. Is Newton-le-Willows Merseyside or Liverpool? In my opinion No - so how does Rick Astley qualify? If this is allowed then where do you draw the line? Wigan is as close? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.218.186.54 (talk) 03:08, 11 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible to have the Beatles road manager on this list ? He became there manager after Brian Epstein and was the head of a major record label Apple Corp that produce international stars like James Taylor , Apple Corps .. the city of liverpool was the most bombed city out side London during the blitz his pregnant mother was Evacuated to give birth to him and returned to liverpool after .. there is quiet a few on the list on the list that was not born in liverpool for the same reason, he is important in the history of the Beatles story that many are interested in , might I add the Motown boss are on the list in there city .. and it seems ok to have the BeeGee brothers on the Manchester list even though they are not born in Manchester or didn’t spent long living there thanks . Hi,

I'm afraid the Internet Movie Database is not a reliable source. This is because it is an open source website that hasn't been published. It has a poor reputation for fact checking. Additions using imdb need to be removed I'm afraid. --Jza84 |  Talk  22:06, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Incompetent editor

edit

This article is suffering from repeated incompetent edits from ACtiling. He has been warned at User talk:ACtiling by User:LicenceToCrenellate, by User:Ghmyrtle, and more recently by me. The most obvious thing is that he repeatedly adds entries out of alphabetical order, and it seems that he has often merely removed an existing entry and put a new entry in its place. It isn't clear whether he has a difficulty in comprehension, but he continues his disruptive editing and expecting other people to tidy up after him. He has received suggestions to start from Help:Getting started or to practice in his user sandbox, but he has failed to respond to any constructive suggestions. I fear that a WP:CIR block may be the only solution, but if other editors can get through to him it would be useful. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:15, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

In fairness, their most recent edits, made since I rolled back earlier ones, have been in the right order. I think the one you rolled back today was from before then. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 16:57, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

As just one example among the batch I rolled back today, this edit, one of his most recent from yesterday evening, put an Se entry among the Sa entries (presumably because he did it by removing an existing Sa entry). He clearly doesn't have a clue. Not malicious, but grossly incompetent, and unwilling or unable to learn. --David Biddulph (talk) 18:27, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Regarding removal of entries; some entries of notability have been removed but they have also trimmed some people who probably don't need to be on there (reality TV contestants from 15 years ago, for example) and added some people who deserve to be on the list. Perhaps in these cases it would be better to gain some sort of consensus before removing people? LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 17:03, 6 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

It seems that the edits are now being done under the guise of an anonymous account. Over the last two days, I've rolled back two sets of edits which have involved names being added out of alphabetical order and involving entries being needlessly removed just to add another user. I'd suggest this page needs blocking from anonymous edits. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 22:56, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Is it possible to ask on this to add people and get your Consensus and you put them on for me ?

Can you add people for me. On this ACtiling (talk) 14:10, 20 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Can I suggest a few more names please ? ACtiling (talk) 16:46, 20 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

You don't need permission to put them on, just make sure that they were either born in Merseyside or lived here for a significant part of their lives. Please don't remove anyone else in the process. LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 00:07, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Unfair behaviour from editors

edit

Why deleated mine what I put up when they was Alphabetical order, the ones I put up was brilliant additions!! Maybe that’s the problem don’t want it being to good, .. Wikipedia is awful it’s full off old out of date stuff that’s full of non factual, all because it’s got people like yourself taking modern stuff off i, before I got involved the Merseyside list was a joke maybe that’s the way yourself want it, totally Disappointed with the attitude of yourselves ACtiling (talk) 21:24, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

You put back a actor that played in a soap opera from 40 years boring yawn yawn yawn and put back a opera. Singer from a 100 years ago and I put relevant people who are alive now !! And you left a one who was not even a killer from over a 100 years ago to a relevant killer now who was only in our local papers today .. ACtiling (talk) 21:39, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

And yes removed out of date additions yes a singer from a over a hundred years ago and a actor from a soap 40 years ago you have to be about 65 years old to even remember Corry from that far back not like he is a film actor that you will see again watching a old film ! And a Victorian man who was not even the Jack the Ripper the Wikipedia even says so ?? By the way there is hundreds of suspects… joke behaviour the ones I put up are true and more interesting to younger people ACtiling (talk) 22:10, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Being from Liverpool and not getting fair treatment about who is on our own list just left to your mood who stays on is not fair I should been getting thanked for what I have done which I was at the beginning ACtiling (talk) 22:14, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Am I going to get a reply ? All that trouble to undo what I put up Scandalous childish behaviour and can’t even disuse with me to say why you seem to be so against my additions.. ACtiling (talk) 22:19, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

You've been asked not to remove people when you add others but you keep doing it. What reply are you expecting? LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 22:25, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
And have said I don’t know how to add my own without removing people , most of the people on this out of date list needed removing !! The reply I want is fir you just to put the out of date irrelevant boring ones back on if that’s what you want not hard for you lot to do it it .. is Wikipedia only for the computer wiz kids is it, only for a certain type people to get involved in? ACtiling (talk) 22:32, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

I should be getting thanked for the contributions I have made instead of getting banned from it like that’s how it feels because it was not like that at the beginning when the list was a mess even the summaries was a mess ACtiling (talk) 22:34, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Have you been to Wikipedia:Help desk yet? Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:54, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
I am from Liverpool and know it’s history and proud of it and am getting told not to be removing people ! From yourselfs that are happy to have the list like a mess before I first seen it it was full of no marks that was not even from Liverpool, it had a Wikipedia of a man in it thsts a public Nusanace a bogie man type of fella that got left on but yourselves without checking it was full of soap so called actors who not been on the tv for 40 years on the list but that’s ok by yourselves you lot was not bothed you just do t want a true Merseyside’s tryi g to improve the list because not a computer wiz kid .. I should be getting thanked fir removing about 50 names it looked like a list that had been put up 30 years ago that k ow one eles got involved in matbe it had not been changed that long before the editors are so hard work! ACtiling (talk) 22:48, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

So basically on Merseyside list you lot was happy to see the list a told mess full of irrelevant people boring people as long as a true Merseysider does not remove people.. yes I do find you all childish unsupportive people who basically not really bothered about improving Wikipedia!!! ACtiling (talk) 22:59, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

That list I first seen looked like a list that had not been changed for 30 years now I know why because the editors are unsupportive and want to loose there minds instead about Alphabetical order ACtiling (talk) 23:02, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

You have now added 14 (fourteen!) separate threads on this page complaining about your treatment. Just give it a rest, please, and teach yourself how to edit properly. Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:08, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yes and you have removed 14 of my good additions, you need to give it a rest on unhelpful ungrateful awkward people and lazy by the way in not just putting them in order, and you need to learn how to be better at checking things not that are not true and do your job right .. go on bore you leave 100 year old singers on the list and soap actors on the list the young ones will not be one bit intrested in or who have a clue who is doing a good job there keep it up 👍 ACtiling (talk) 23:22, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah and you just spent 14 minutes removing my additions just because you wanted a opera singer from over a 100 years ago and a soap actor that not been on tv for 20 years and was in Corey 40 years ago ! You was doing it just because you lot are spiteful noting to do with nothing eles just because you can that’s all so much on Wikipedia is out of date now I know why !!! ACtiling (talk) 23:34, 21 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ok I would like to add my first suggestion or first two — Ken Nelson , record producer who won three Grammy awards with his work with Coldplay and as well as others . ACtiling (talk) 06:38, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Andy Holligan - boxer , British and Commonwealth champion. ACtiling (talk) 06:54, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ross Barkley and Arron Cresswell .. both have represented the England international Team ACtiling (talk) 06:58, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Larry Carberry -footballer former. That’s a few hope add not suggesting to many all at once sorry ACtiling (talk) 07:01, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ron Atkinson, footballer and Manager, but did not reside on Merseyside. ACtiling (talk) 07:04, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

They all sound worthy enough to me.
If you're adding (and not removing :-) them, remember the format is:
* Page address: Short description
If you want to do a cleaner link where the person's page address has a description in it for disambiguation, use:
How it should look
I.e.

Gary Ablett

This means the link on the page would appear as 'Gary Ablett' and not 'Gary Ablett (footballer)'
Happy editing!

@ACtiling: Please STOP posting random thoughts as individual new posts. I've just merged two posts from you into a single reply to the previous editor. Either click the 'reply' link and respond to the previous person, or start a new discussion on a new topic that others can respond to, or place one extra colon (:) at the start of a new line to make it indent one level. John Lyons was from Merseyside he friend of my dads ACtiling (talk) 21:32, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

That is most definitely NOT a reliable source, sources need to be published. Theroadislong (talk) 21:45, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@ACtiling You are referring (very badly, yet again, with a really unhelpful header) to my revert of your addition of John Lyon (boxer) to the article. Wikipedia takes the view that no editor adds anything unless it can be verified (See WP:VERIFY) by looking at published sources in the public domain. We don't care what you happen to know or who your mates are. I'm sure this may be true, but personal knowledge about something is not a valid reason for adding something to Wikipedia. You either need the article in question to contain a cited source to prove that connection, or you need to add a citation here. You've done neither, and so it is not an acceptable addition. Do not do it again, please. Nick Moyes (talk) 21:47, 23 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Reply to that fact that it does say he was born in liverpool

edit

Yes it does you just removed it and it says he inborn in Liverpool ACtiling (talk) 10:39, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Who? You are not replying to individual comments on this page, you are publishing random comments that anyone can read - but, often, almost no-one can understand. Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:46, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@ACtiling Oh, for goodness sake. No it doesn't! I assume this relates to your insertion of John Lyon (boxer) which I then removed? You just wrote it down yourself. That's not a provable fact using published sources. In blunt language: We don't give a fig what you happen to know. We simply don't trust anyone (you, your dad, or indeed me) to just add true factual statements. Too many people try to use Wikipedia to insert untruths, so our default position is to disregard what people happen to know. WE NEED PUBLISHED PROOF. Saying something that you happen to know or believe without being able to substantiate it does not make it a verifiable fact in Wikipedia's eyes.
If you can link to a published source like a magazine article to say John Lyon (boxer) or anyone else comes from a certain place, then feel free to re-insert it. Until then do not do so. Is that clear? I am reasonably OK with you adding back in George Hinckley as the target article has mention Liverpool for some while, and I've just added a cn template to request a source to prove it. Now, if you cannot accept our guidance and our ways (including learning how to reply to the relevant threads here, rather than posting a brand new section that nobody will be able to follow) then I'm afraid there is no longer likely to be a place here for you on Wikipedia - just go and build your own website instead, then you can add whatever unsubstantiated personal opinions and recollections you like.
(Now, I must apologise for coming across bluntly, but I fear nothing else is getting through to you, and I have already pointed you to Wikipedia:Competence is required to little avail). Nick Moyes (talk) 11:17, 24 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Change in format

edit

I'm going to start changing the formating of the article to match the style of most of the other "List of people..." articles on Wikipedia.

That is, rather than

"Name: description"

It will become

"Name (born xxxx), description"

or

"Name (xxxx–yyyy), description"

I'll use the opportunity to try and standardise & simplify the descriptions a bit more as well as remove overlinking.

Any objections or comments? I won't start making changes immediately.LicenceToCrenellate (talk) 07:37, 20 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

No objection, but I just did a bunch of work to make the current format a bit more sensible and consistent. No objection if someone wants to help in a somewhat different direction, as it's still a bit of a mess. Dicklyon (talk) 04:07, 11 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
