Update necessary
editIn January 2014 a new "Decision about the classification of railway lines" has been published by the Croatian Government, please check here [1]. So basically we need to update our list. For some reason, though, not only the numbers and even categories of some lines have changed, but in many cases also the declared length of line and also the general categorisation criteria. So as this causes some detailed update work anyway, I would like to suggest
- that we do not simply update this list, but rather set up a new list and move this existing one to List of railway lines in Croatia (2006-2013) (or something similar) and
- use the following (or a similar) pattern for the new list
Railway number (since 2014) |
Railway number (2006-2013) |
Length | Control cities | Connecting railways |
---|---|---|---|---|
M101 | M101 | 26.734 km (16.612 mi) | state border–Savski Marof–Zagreb (Main Station) | M102, M202, M405, M501, Dobova–Ljubljana |
M103 | M103 | 83.405 km (51.825 mi) | Dugo Selo–Novska | M102, M104, M105, M201, L205 |
M104 | M105 | 185.405 km (115.205 mi) | Novska–Vinkovci–Tovarnik–state border | M103, M502, ... etc. ..., Belgrade–Šid |
M202 | M202 | 227.880 km (141.598 mi) | Zagreb (Main Station)–Karlovac–Rijeka | M101, M102, M404, M405, M502, M602, M603, M604, M605, L103, L212 |
M203 | M502 | 30.896 km (19.198 mi) | Rijeka–Šapjane–state border (Slovenia) | M202, L212, Ilirska Bistrica–Pivka |
M604 | M604, L218 | 322.083 km (200.133 mi) | Oštarije–Gospić–Knin–Split | M202, M605, M606, M607, R103, |
I believe that it might be useful to keep an overview which line number changed into which other one (for example just in case we forget to update some internal links or if some other (external) source still refers to the old number. We could do the same thing with the "declared" length of line, i.e. two columns for now and 2006-2013. I wonder why the lengths changed I don't think the the built length of lines has changed in real life. Also, moving the existing list would allow to keep the previous definitions of the corridors. They are similar to todays's definition, but differ in details. I think this might be interesting for international readers as well.
For all those lines, which do no not appear in the list any more (e.g. previous R203, L105, L203, L211, L212, L213 and most parts of L217) we should set up a new table "Previous lines", with all the data (length, previous number etc.) from the old table.
Railway number (since 2014) |
Railway number (2006-2013) |
Length | Control cities | Connecting railways (numbers as of 2014) |
---|---|---|---|---|
none | R203 | 1.111 km (0.690 mi) | Krivaja wye–Gaj wye | M502, R102 |
My tables here are excerpts and examples only.
New general statistics (length of network etc.) may be found may be found at the "Network statement 2015" (in Croatian or in English in chapter 3.2, page 24).
Well, and besides updating this list we need to move und update some of our articles ...
- M502 railway became M203, so M502 railway (Croatia) needs to be moved to M203 railway (Croatia) (without redirect)
- M104 railway became M502, so M104 railway (Croatia) needs to be moved to M502 railway (Croatia) (without redirect)
- M105 railway became M104, so M105 railway (Croatia) needs to be moved to M104 railway (Croatia) (redirect may be kept, I think)
... and within all those articles we need to update both the lead text as well as all those links to connecting railways... Updating the internal links might even refer to much more articles.
Eventually we will also need a new map, but at this time even HŽ still use an old map on their internet presentation ;-) [2]. The network statement for 2015 contains news maps already, though. (--> Annex 3.1) I am not sure, if they may be copied to the commons.
I don't think we will get bored. I am not even sure how much time I will be able to spend for this during the next few weeks, reading the croatian text still takes me some time ... I hope all this will not happen again during the next 10 years ;-)
Thanks in advance for any opinions and also for cooperation!
