Zanzibar
editshouldn't zanzibar be included in the list? Bothar 08:08, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
No, it is part of Tanzania! Bothar 14:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC)
Ceuta and Melilla
editShouldn't Spain be included, because of Ceuta and Melilla?
Could somebody please erase Mayotte? Just because it's a territory does not mean it belongs on this list. Alos, Spain is a European country. It does not belong here. Please erase those two.
- See "Africa and Europe" section of Transcontinental country for more details about the geographical border between Africa and Europe.--Gimferrer 14:15, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Redesign
editI have made a different version of this page using the sortable feature of tables. Now it lists a few more facts about each country and they are also sortable (so they can be listed by pop, GDP, size etc). It is currently at User:Chris_huh/List of African countries, what do you think? Chris_huhtalk 10:52, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Saint Helena
editWhy is Saint Helena on this list? What is its relationship to Africa? --12.216.36.70 (talk) 21:18, 30 December 2007 (UTC)
Missing countries
editI am working right now with a EU database on trade and i cannot help noticing that some pretty big countries are missing from this list... Where did South Africa, Sierra Leone, Somalia and Swaziland all go? And Sudan, there's one more for you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex.luta (talk • contribs) 14:41, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Also missing is Republic of Congo (Brazzaville - not DRC).--Zapallon (talk) 03:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Réunion
editAlthough not technically a protectorate (it's actually a department of France) I colored the row since it is definitely not a sovereign state. --The Jacobin (talk) 05:03, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Languages
editWhat standard are languages listed in this article. This seems to show a mishmash of official, widely used and .... random languages. At present languages listed is neither complete nor consistent. Official language or official plus widely used language should be standard. collounsbury (talk) 12:39, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- They are the official languages as stated by each country's article. I have changed the column heading to be Official languages so that it is clearer. Did you have a specific example? Chris_huhtalk 13:20, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- Morocco, for example. FRench and Arabic are used, but the Official Language is Arabic only. collounsbury (talk) 14:27, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- The same issue for Mauritania and I think several others, e.g. Madagascar, I do not believe has English as an Official language. collounsbury (talk) 14:29, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- The articles have changed since the list has been made, but the list hasn't been updated, that's why some fo the data is a bit different. Chris_huhtalk 14:40, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Same with Nigeria, English is the official language but there are three other major languages which are Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo. These languages should be added as well. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freeomo (talk • contribs) 03:42, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
Article title
editThere has been an extensive debate over at Talk:List of European countries and territories about what should and should not be included in the list because of the title. Most editors there support moving the page to either List of sovereign states and dependent territories in Europe or List of European sovereign states and territories. If the European list is moved it is likely this list will be moved as well in the next few days unless there is opposition to such a move here. It would help to avoid confusion and disputes if the all of these lists (countries and territories by continents) have the same title. Saying sovereign state rather than country is a more precise term and is in line with the fact List of countries redirects to the list of sovereign states article.
If you have thoughts on the title please raise them here or ideally join the debate at Talk:List of European countries and territories. Thanks BritishWatcher (talk) 19:06, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
Okay, theres some references claiming mauritius is african, but some also claim it is oceanian. So why have we opted to make it african? Someone65 (talk) 23:11, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- Mauritius is generally accepted to be african isn't it. i can't see any way it could be oceanian, it being a few thousand miles west of australia. Are you sure you mean Mauritius? Its off the coast of madagascar, and is a member of several african organisations, eg AU and SADC.--125.162.160.169 (talk) 07:21, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- The continent of Oceania is defined as the countries of Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and the island nations of the South Pacific. Mauritius as was said above is in the Indian Ocean' not the Southern Pacific. — Iune(talk) 23:52, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
Canary Islands
editCanary Islands also it is in Africa but it is not named, has a status as of ceuta and melilla —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.32.35.233 (talk) 20:26, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
Maps of Ceuta and Melilla
editThe previous maps of Ceuta and Melilla were based on a map of Spain, and may well have given the misleading impression that both territories were islands in the Mediterranean. I have substitued a new map for these teritories (similar, but not identical, to the map shown for Plazas de soberanía). It would, however, be preferable if the maps shown could be on the basis of the map of Africa, as shown for nearly all the other territories listed in this article. Davshul (talk) 07:23, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
South Sudan
editAs South Sudan has now declared independence, this article requires updating. --87.254.74.181 (talk) 23:28, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, it's just the image that needs updating - the entry for Sudan still includes the territory of South Sudan. --87.254.74.181 (talk) 23:31, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to try working on the new images. Ke6jjj (talk) 19:19, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Sites are absent
editFor example:
malta is Africa
Socotra in Yemen
Pelagie Islands in Italy
--83.40.230.35 (talk) 04:38, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
- Alboran in Andalusia, Spain is considered as part of Europe, but you can add the rest as they are considered in either continent.
Cabinda
editShouldn't we include Republic of Cabinda in the unrecognized state categories as a region de facto operated by an unrecognized government? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.160.176.190 (talk • contribs)
- Have you a source noting it is de facto operated by an unrecognised government? CMD (talk) 13:20, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
- I oppose. Cabinda is just a province in Angola and it's an integral part of Angola despite being enclaved by another country. It's not called Republic of Cabinda at all.
Outdated!
editThe least that could be done would be to stress in the heading that most of the data origins from 2008. Currently, readers are misled to believe that this is the real situation. --82.131.25.105 (talk) 20:12, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Map of Sudan
editThe image that highlights the map of Sudan within the map of Africa is incorrect. It shows Sudan as it was before the South Sudan split. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KobiNew (talk • contribs) 20:25, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
Pelagie Islands vs Socotra
editIs there a reason that the Pelagie islands are included in the list of integral African portions of primarily non-African countries while Socotra is not? Astrofreak92 (talk) 18:53, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
