dude, there should definitely be an ambiguation page here.. i mean loin means a lotta things.. :x

agreed - link from "Shire horse" to "loin" doesn't want to redirect to "loincloth"!! MightyWarrior 14:42, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Moreover, there should be a picture / diagram of a human with loin marked. The reason is that I am not sure if loin means the back, the side, the front of the genital area. Mormons annoint the loin in endowment ceremonies: where is this part of the body? source: "The head, eyes, nose, neck, shoulders, arms, loins, legs, feet, etc. are all washed and blessed." http://home.teleport.com/~packham/temples.htm User: --name withheld--

Derogatory term

edit

I can find no references of the web to the use of "loin" as a derogatory term, therefore I have removed this sentence. If there are references to this usage, could they be noted here. MightyWarrior 20:36, 4 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Questionable statement

edit

"The phrase "Gird one's loins" means to wrap a belt around one's waist to prepare for action"- what exactely is this supposed to mean? I have removed the statement until a better written versions is used. Signaturebrendel 00:33, 31 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup

edit

I didn't tag the article for cleanup but since it is tagged I will point out some things that need to be cleaned up. As the dictionary ref states, "loin" has two anatomical meanings: the back on either side of the lumbar vertebrae, and the genitals. The current image tries to split the difference and shows neither meaning. It labels the side of the body, between the ribs and hip, which is called the flank. --Una Smith (talk) 20:09, 2 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Contradictory Image

edit

The article describes the loin as the "sides between the lower ribs and pelvis, and the lower part of the back" while the illustration points to the groin, much lower. So which is it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.160.148.166 (talk) 10:28, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I noticed that too. Also, "The term also has become euphemistic for human genitals[1][2] due to their prominence in that anatomical region." That is inconsistent with "...sides between the lower ribs and pelvis, and the lower part of the back". Maybe the author has "loin" mixed up with "groin". The word "loincloth" suggests that the loins are not above the pelvis. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77Mike77 (talkcontribs) 14:55, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

agreed. the current image is not useful and potentially confusing. it is better off removed, even without a better image to replace it. Fantiquitous (talk) 01:50, 3 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Just wanted to post same. - Any volunteer to find better pic? :o} --217.84.65.172 (talk) 14:43, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

"inchiclebody" ???

edit

Under "Human anatomical term" the 2nd paragraph states:

"The lumbar region of the spinal column is located inchiclebody.[11]"

I checked the cite; this word is not located there, nor is it (or "chiclebody") in the dictionary. Does anyone have a clue what this sentance is TRYING to say, and if so, could they possibly fix it? It would be most appreciated! Kailey elise (talk) 14:50, 12 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, someone is inserting spurious content? The first paragraph ends with another strange statement "Loins also have a radar." Does the subject of loins attract interest... from pranksters? 68.35.173.107 (talk) 01:40, 19 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
