Fair use rationale for Image:LouisJourdan.jpg

edit

Image:LouisJourdan.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Too Young for Military Service?

edit

If he was born in 1921, he was 18 in 1939 when the Second World War started. If he was born in 1919, he was 20. Many others served, and died, at those ages.97.124.237.182 (talk) 00:42, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

According to Conscription in France, the age of conscription was 20 and the term of service was three years following passage of the Three Year Law in 1913. As late as 1935 the term was still only two years. The age was eventually reduced to 18 but it doesn't say when. GA-RT-22 (talk) 03:02, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Birth year

edit

Although 1919 is widely given, it appears 1921 is correct (info supplied by kuchlenz):

1. An employee work record from 1950 (signed by him) which states '1921'.

2. His son's grave at Westwood Memorial Park. He and his wife have added their names and the beginning date, "1921 -- ".

3. There are several interviews in which he gives his age and if you subtract his age from the date of the interview, it always ends up 1921. See People (1985) and in 'Homages within at Autobiography' (2001), he refers to a drawing done of him by Jean Cocteau. In his own words and voice, he says it was drawn 4 months before the liberation of Paris by the Allies and he was 23 years old. Paris was liberated on 25 AUG 1944 (go to 7:30). There are numerous other examples.

Several references admit confusion to the issue. Most references just repeat IMDb.

Thanks for the research on this Crisso. I am conflicted about our ability to us it - thus my edits on the main page. IMDb can't be used as a source and this applies to people editing there. However, the interview about the Cocteau drawing is fairly definitive, as are some of the other interviews. As an aid to other editors please be aware of two things. This [1] is a more accurate link to the IMDb page where this is discussed. The interview with LJ starts at about the 7 minute 30 second mark (I know that you said this but I did not understand your note until I watched the video so I am trying to help avoid this confusion) of the you tube video. If anyone out there can take a picture of the headstone at the cemetery or find a way to get a photo of the work record that would seal things and your help would be much appreciated. I will alter the info on the main page until we can get better info. MarnetteD | Talk 19:27, 28 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Monte Cristo

edit

I find it quite remarkable that he played Edmond Dantes in the 1961 film version of the famous book and De Villefort in the 1975 version with Richard Chamberlain as Dantes. While on the page of the 1975 film Louis Jourdan is mentioned, on his page the reference is missing. For me these are two of his most memorable roles and I was rather startled when I recognized him as having portrayed another character in another movie adaptation of the same novel. 91.63.235.204 (talk) 22:08, 15 October 2012 (UTC)]Reply

Legion of Honor

edit

Try as I might, I could find no reference to him receiving "officier" grade. The youtube video looks like a "chevalier" to me. Is this an error, or does someone have a reference? MonsieurET (talk) 04:06, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Date of Death

edit

Most of the articles say that he died on February 14, 2015 the New York Times made an error about the day he died. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.237.34.211 (talk) 04:50, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

The New York Times doesn't make mistakes. Just ask them. [/s]. Thanks for pointing this out. -Ad Orientem (talk) 04:59, 16 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Father or son?

edit

His father was arrested by the Gestapo; months later he escaped, and joined the French Resistance.

Which one joined the Resistance? This makes it sound like the father. But the copy that follows seems to suggest that it was the son. Of course, it could have been both. But can you clarify? Valetude (talk) 23:50, 20 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

House photos

edit

Per MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE there are several problems with the house photos. 1) They add nothing to a readers understanding of Jourdan. 2) They could be of any house from anywhere. 3) Even of they are of a house that he lived in they are not from the time that he lived in the house. 4) This article is about Jourdan - not the places where he lived. While I am sure the editor enjoyed taking the photos they add nothing to the encyclopedia. They could be posted on their blog though. MarnetteD|Talk 23:15, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Based on this edit summary there is also the problem of WP:SELFPROMOTION and WP:COI. MarnetteD|Talk 23:21, 29 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
