Candidate for deletion?
editAs best as I can tell, this is just an OR commentary. Anybody care to defend it before I nominate it for deletion?
Wikipedia does need some sort of entry on 'low culture' - whether or not we think that this entry cuts it, and whether or not we agree with the high/low cultural distinction. It is such a pervasive concept that it would be remiss not to refer to it in an encyclopedia. It has its place in a history of ideas, even if we are all thoroughgoing postmodernists now, who spurn the dichotomy :) --82.152.252.94 (talk) 13:07, 2 April 2008 (UTC) do not delete —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.145.214.150 (talk) 18:36, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
I think an article on Low Culture that's lacking impact or substance is perfect. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.18.119.80 (talk) 21:32, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
This article should not be deleted because it is a descent start on a needed article. SirBrainChild (talk) 05:50, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
Dubious claim that it is guided by what people like.

peer review--jenny
editFrom the lead, I saw the definition of “low culture”, and it reports that It has been said by culture theorists that both high culture and low culture are subcultures. However, the readers may have no idea about “subcultures”. So, I think it should add more explanation.
The sections are organized well and easy to see it included three main parts-- standards and definitions of low culture, culture as the class and mass media. It makes sense, but personally, I think it should add more examples because the topic “low culture” is an abstract term, and it needs more examples to support. In see also part, you might explain a little the feature of Bogan.
The balance is ok, there are there are no major viewpoints left out, just add some outstanding school and style.
The language used in the article seems professional, and the readers easily believe the author’s words. There is no subjective thought in the article. No words like "the best," "most people," "obviously” or unnamed groups or people.
The sources used in the article mainly from books, which seems reliable. However, I think you should add more, there are only two sources even though you used in the different pages of the book. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sitongchen (talk • contribs) 00:22, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

Modern examples of low culture
edit"Sports, pop music, fast food, fast-fashion and superhero movies are all considered modern examples of low culture" This needs a citation, because sports being low culture is a very bold claim to make. Sports such as football are significant to cultures in countries such as Spain, Portugal, and Argentina. I would also change superhero movies to "formulaic blockbusters" as well, because many modern blockbusters that rely on formulas such as brand-recognition, nostalgia-baiting, and spectacle also fit the definition of low culture such as Jurassic World, Ghostbusters reboots, Planet of the Apes reboots, Home Alone reboots and sequels, The Meg, Ready Player One, etc. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 16:42, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
- "Low culture" is effectively a classist term, implying its appeal to the "less-educated social classes". Basically, if the working class likes something, then it is low culture. Dimadick (talk) 01:35, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Still, that excerpt that I quoted needs a citation as it currently lacks one. Edelgardvonhresvelg (talk) 02:13, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
