Qatari, not Indian

edit

Husain voluntarily accepted Qatari citizenship when it was offered, and surrendered his Indian passport. He also never even applied for Overseas Citizenship of India. Article and short description needs to be updated accordingly.

Something really needs to be done about Mr Husain's profile picture, File:MFHussain.jpg. His face is so bright that, when the image is small, as it currently is on the Main Page, it looks like his head is wrapped in bandages. LordVetinari (talk) 02:06, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Someone needs to edit this photo and reupload it. It looks so bad on Wiki's front page. 71.33.194.92 (talk) 07:04, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I never heard of this gentleman before, but saw the image and assumed he must be albino. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.88.228.158 (talk) 05:13, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I edited the image and fixed the problem, I guess. ۞ Tbhotch & (ↄ), Problems with my English? 08:24, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Tbhotch. He looks more impressive without the bandages. LordVetinari (talk) 10:17, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
In fact this is a cropped version of what was a much larger image. The thing round his neck is a sling. Paul B (talk) 10:32, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

nationality

edit

I have changed the nationality to Qatari because Hussain Sahab gave up Indian citizenship and returned the passport. The Indian Govt accepted his ceasing of being an Indian legally by accepting the passport.Qatar offered and he accepted the citizenship. Hence it is most apt to write him " a Qatari citizen of Indian origin" isarnabi 10:34, Jun 10, 2004 (IST) —Preceding undated comment added 17:04, 10 June 2011 (UTC).Reply

I have moved this comment to the bottom. Note that the 2004 date seems to have been cut and pasted from another talk page comment. The Sinebot date is correct. The infobox should give both nationalities, since he was an Indian national for most of his life, and only Quatari for one year. Paul B (talk) 18:07, 10 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
I understand what you are saying, but now it "Indian/Qatari" seems to be at the top again, and one has to read the entire article page to find out he moved to Qatar in 2010 (gave up citizenship, etc from India) then died in 2011. No offense to anybody, but does one year plus living in another country make an almost century old Indian person Indian/Qatari? I think at the least this should be not in the intro--perhaps in his bio along with a brief explanatory note.Raisinpie (talk) 05:11, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Indian-Qatari is just silly. All the obits describe him as Indian. Paul B (talk) 20:16, 10 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Name in Marathi has different spelling

edit

I wonder, why my edits spelling his name in native language Marathi (मकबूल फिदा हुसेन) were overwritten with Hindi spelling "मक़बूल फ़िदा हुसैन" ?!! Spellings in Marathi and Hindi differ for many names and words, even though they share the same Devanagari script.

Anyways, I am reinstating the correct Marathi spelling in the article.

Suggestions for improvement

edit

For some reason there is no discussion in this entry of Husain's depiction of Indira Gandhi as a vanquishing Durga. At the very least this would seem to merit some mention, if not a full examination, as it surely provides a fuller understanding of Husain's relationship to other prominent contemporaries.

Also, portions of the syntax in this article are problematic, as are some idioms. One example from memory is the phrase "in his initial days..." While this is not grammatically incorrect, it is not in common usage either and sounds somewhat awkward. I would recommend that someone undertake to make some improvements to the overall language of the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.105.46.83 (talk) 13:28, 1 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is no mention of the "Partition" in this article and how it inspired and influenced the creation of the Progressive Artists Movement to be different than other past groups. Also, Husain of often spelled Hussain by writers and the artist himself. The article spends way too much time going on about the controversial aspects of this artists works, and never, for instance, mentions he liked to draw and paint horses.Raisinpie (talk) 05:19, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

The spelling of the eminent painter universally used in MF Husain and not MF Hussain. There is only one letter 's' in his name. This article carries various and erroneous spelling of the painter. Even though it is a minor matter, finalising on one spelling is needed. (59.92.119.166 (talk) 20:09, 12 August 2023 (UTC))Reply
