Question about Merrin's age at time of death

I notice this has been changed in the article from 32 to 31. In some references his age at time of death is 31[1] and some it is 32[2]. Google finds similar number of returns for both 31[3] and 32[4]. Perhaps someone can find a definitive answer? Xagent86 (Talk | contribs) 08:50, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

As a friend of his I can clarify this. He would have turned 32 this year but he passed away before his birthday. Hope that helps. 86.212.35.135 (talk) 07:29, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

A little history behind MVGroup

MVGroup was started after both Merrin and myself had been using the various forms of P2P for sometime. We had downloaded alot of TV programs from the states just because they were not shown in the UK. Then one night we were talking using Messenger when Merrin came up with the idea that perhaps we should try and give something back. Now at this point we didn't have a clue as to what we would give back, but the first port of call was to understand the way to rip and encode the source using the new DIVX format.

After alot of trying and a huge number of failiures we got it down to an art and could encode a program below 700MB but with good quality. The first release was off the BBC's Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson, a dvd all about cars and basicaly which was the fastest and the best. Merrin did the encode overnight and brought a copy round for me the following day. The details were posted on the site "FTI" and we waitted to see if it took off. By the end of the first day there was a large number of people downloading the file from both of us but due to the fact that our connection speeds were not the best it took some time to get out there. Once there was enough seeds out there to continue sharing the file we started to look for the next release we were going to push out.

It took sometime to find out our niche within the community but we said that we wanted to do something that no one else was doing at the time. The documentary idea came about one morning when we were at university drinking coffee, smoking and reading the papers instead of a lecture. From then on we went out and found a source of DVD's and started to rip them and encode them to DIVX for release. When we had 6 or so releases out in the ether that is the web, Merrin asked the admins of "FTI" for our own space within the forums just for the releases we were putting out. It was agreed and we had our first home where people could come and find what we had and find out what was coming up.

In the months that followed we had a large and dedicated following of people hungry for the next release, but times were changing. FTI received numerous letters about copyright and called it a day closing the site down. This left Merrin and I homeless and we didn't want to just dump our releases on the numerous other sites. As a result the MVGroup site was born and soon after the tracker was added. Merrin worked on the forum with myself but due to his lack of finance at the time I had to put up the money for the hosting. It was tight to start but we got by and soon people joined the forum and offered to help out with the running costs via donations. When the first link went up for donations Merrin and I both agreed that we were not doing this for the money but to allow others to enjoy what we released. So any monies that were left over from each months running costs was ploughed backin to buying new DVD's to rip and release.

Thats how it all got started.

Registered members

In the bottom of the main page of the forum [5] it says that: "We have 131,924 registered members"

so I hope we correct the number of members mentioned in the article as of May 5, 2008
