The book "Hymns of the Rigveda" was published by Ralph Griffith in 1896. I suppose the issue of copyrights does not apply here since the publication is more than 100 years old. Further, the same content is available in wikisource as well -

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Rig_Veda/Mandala_10/Hymn_83

http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/The_Rig_Veda/Mandala_10/Hymn_84

Hence my understanding is that there is no copyright violation issue here. Please clarify.

My concern with copyright was that this translation had been published in a book that was somehow still copyrighted. But since its on Wikisource that isn't an issue. If you go to this link WP:NOT#MIRROR you'll see that we prefer not to have exact duplicates of existing source material. Since this text is already available on Wikisource, as you linked to (thanks), the bext thing to do would be to redirect this page to Rig veda or Manyu and put a boxed link on those pages, linking to the Wikisource copy. One major problem I could see leaving this text around is that editors might attempt to reword its grammar, spelling, syntax, to conform with modern english grammar, which would destroy the meaning. Leaving it linked to Wikisource protects it from those sorts of errors. Thanks again. Mbisanz (talk) 04:00, 14 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
