Prosecution
editLooks like Uddin is one of six individuals that are going to be charged with fraud, I'll update the entry when the DPP announces it, the Daily Telegraph already have the details and are getting ready to go to print atm, supposedly any Lord will now be stripped of their peerage if guilty under the new government specifically post-dated to the 2009 'mp expenses' scandal as exposed by the TelegraphTwobells (talk) 22:42, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Uddin Returns to the House of Lords
editThis woman has apparently returned to the House of Lords today (14/11/2011) despite repaying a single penny of the £125,000 she stole from UK taxpayers [<http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2061006/Shamed-peer-allowed-House-Lords-despite-failing-repay-penny-125-000-false-expenses.html>]. Worse still, she will be entitled to £300 A DAY for doing so. She claims she is too poor to repay anything, despite owning 3 properties. A ruling by the committee for privileges and conduct in the Lords says that it would be illegal to make her return conditional on the repayment of the money, and appears to have warned that such an arrangement would amount to a permanent ban, which would infringe her right as a peer to be called to the House by the Queen at the start of a parliament. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.70.225.110 (talk) 01:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
- I've refactored this post so that it doesn't run afoul of Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. I cannot tell if the balance of the message is an edit request or commentary on British parliamentary shortcomings. Tiderolls 07:20, 14 November 2011 (UTC)
Thank you TideRolls, it is a genuine question from someone who just read of the suicides of Mark Mullins, a former soldier, and his disabled wife, who despaired after subsisting on £57.50 a week in benefits for 18 months, and having to walk 12 miles for a free hot meal at a Salvation Army soup kitchen as they could not afford to have gas and electricity in their home. [<http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2059238/Army-veteran-Mark-Mullins-wife-Helen-driven-suicide-poverty.html>]. I was wondering if reports that Mrs. Uddin was still claiming £300 a day from the taxpayer were actually true, or a media distortion,as it seems utterly incredible. 80.42.235.228 (talk) 01:22, 16 November 2011 (UTC)twl80.42.235.228 (talk) 01:22, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
- Strictly speaking, article talk pages are not a forum for discussion or comment on the article subject. The talk page is for discussion on article improvement. I usually don't concern myself with the odd, stray post unless the message violates a policy (as the original message did), or the post is overly rant-ish. However, another editor may see the situation differently and remove posts that do not adhere to Wikipedia's guideline on talk page use (found at Talk page guidelines). Suspension
editI edited in the political career section, that she was suspended by the National Executive Commitee of the Labour Party and has had her title of "baroness" suspended/stripped until at the earliest Easter 2012. Therefore would it be appropriate to remove her baroness title from the wikipedia page entry? or does she still retain her title through suspension? Would be nice if someone can clarify and cite. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elcor101 (talk • contribs) 18:12, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
- I removed the claim that she will have her title stripped. It does not seem to be supported by the source. I also note that the source speaks of expenses "wrongly claimed" and "to which she was not entitled" but does not use the term 'fraud' - which would be, I think, a specific legal charge, as opposed to a violation of the Code of Conduct of the Lords.
- Regarding the removal of a title, I believe that's impossible, certainly impossible for the Privileges and Conduct committee, and I think impossible for the House of Lords itself. I suppose it would take an act of Parliament.--Jimbo Wales (talk) 11:53, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

First whatever
editThe claim "first Muslim and second asian woman to sit in parliament" has had "citation required" against it for 18 months. Is it time to remove the claim? Busabalc (talk) 20:04, 22 January 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Busabalc (talk • contribs) 19:41, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
- As no-one has dissented, I'll edit out the claim without a citation and clarify political allegiance which has a citation in the body of the article. Busabalc (talk) 16:10, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
