Fact Disputed
editPlease could you view this section "At the time of Domesday Merford was, along with Wrexham, one of the two commotes of the Lordship of Bromfield, or Maelor Gymraeg, and at that time was part of the English county of Chester, although it soon after became part of the Welsh kingdom of Powys Fadog." Modern day references provided an alternative history, please see the article The Rofft. I would be grateful for any opinion if this part of the Marford article should be changed? --WPCW (talk) 16:09, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
- Palmer states that the eastern part of Bromfield (including Merford) was under English control at the time of Domesday and was part of Cheshire, which is in line with what the article on The Rofft states as far as I can see. He also states that the area temporarily came under Welsh administrative control before becoming again an English lordship in 1282 (specifically, all of Bromfield and Yale with the exception of the ecclesiastical manors of Valle Crucis and Llandegla "and the parts attached to Maelor Saesneg").
- The fact that the area was (temporarily) reabsorbed into Powys Fadog is confirmed in other more modern scholarship. I've simplified the sentence to make this clear.
- Palmer also states that Marford was a commote of Bromfield, which also contained the commote of Wrexham. Marford commote contained the mesne manors of Marford and Hoseley, Holt, Hewlington, Burton, Cobham, Ridley, Isycoed, Pickhill and Sesswick, and Hem.
