In the line "Scorsese's body of work explores themes such as Italian-American identity, Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption, faith, machismo, nihilism, crime and sectarianism", 'sectarianism' should be linked to the relevant Wikipedia article. Tobin ez (talk) 17:30, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

There is an inaccuracy in this article regarding Scorsese's education. Scorsese is not a graduate of Tisch School of the Arts. Scorsese received a Master of Arts from NYU's Steinhardt in 1968. "[Scorsese] earned his undergraduate degree from NYU’s Washington Square College in 1964, a Master of Arts degree from the School of Education (now the Steinhardt School of Education, Culture, and Human Development) in 1968, and taught in NYU Tisch’s undergraduate filmmaking program shortly thereafter.' Refer to this article from NYU's webiste for the quotation--"NYU Tisch School of the Arts Receives Major Gift to Establish the Martin Scorsese Institute of Global Cinematic Arts". tisch.nyu.edu. 1980s
editThe section on Scorsese's career in the 80s needs information on his collaboration with Francis Ford Coppola and Woody Allen to direct the anthology film New York Stories. 92.10.13.209 (talk) 16:44, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

The Color of Money - first mainstream film
editIs it sourced that this film is considered to be Scorsese's first foray into mainstream filmmaking? Taxi Driver would seem to qualify, in the literal sense that it was distributed by a major studio, it starred an Oscar winner, it's not an experimental film, etc. It seems to me that the Color of Money "first mainstream" claim is using the term "mainstream" to editorialize on the commercial/conventional qualities of the film. I was wondering what other people thought. YouCanDoBetter (talk) 21:22, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
Wording
editScorsese's films, much influenced by his Italian-American background and upbringing in New York City, center on "macho-posturing insecure men" and explore crime, machismo, nihilism, and Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption.
This sounds like a personal opinion written in the article. StaffSgtBobBarnes (talk) 10:15, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- That information is cited to two external sources. Is it your claim that these sources are not reliable sources? Or are you making a different argument? --Yamla (talk) 10:16, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- My only observation would be that the themes of crime, nihilism, and Catholic concepts I see in the second source, I don't see any mention of posturing/insecure men in it, and I'm not sure if it was in the first. I could see that descriptor as being editorializing from some review that should either be eliminated or contextualized differently, but the majority of the text I think should stay (although I'm not sure where nihilism fits in, that may be a term being misused by the author in question). YouCanDoBetter (talk) 02:02, 5 October 2022 (UTC)
- The only thing I see listed in those sources is nihilism and Catholic concepts of guilt and redemption. Nothing about "macho-posturing insecure men" StaffSgtBobBarnes (talk) 02:03, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

The recent meme on tumblr about a nonexistent ‘73 movie titled ‘Goncharov’ has gotten it added to the tab about his filmography and should be removed Flibety (talk) 15:41, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Already done Per [1]. —Sirdog (talk) 05:26, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- You think it might be worth it to lock the article until the meme dies down a little bit? This kind of vandalism is gonna keep happening. 2600:1700:8151:D850:A473:3DE6:4084:9E5E (talk) 06:11, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- The same hoax has been added to Martin Scorsese filmography, Harvey Keitel, Gene Hackman, John Cazale, Al Pacino on stage and screen, Cybil Shepherd, and Robert De Niro filmography. I'm keeping an eye on all of those. It should peter out soon. (A tweet that posts the tumblr, in case anyone is interested.) Schazjmd (talk) 15:47, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- The page was already partially locked, but as far as I can see this is for unrelated reasons - it was locked at the end of October following a spate of vandalism, and I think the meme interest only seems to date to the last week or so, judging by the traffic numbers. In film preservation / World Cinema Project section, second paragraph, change "three" to "four" in this sentence: "The Criterion Collection so far has released three Vol. boxsets on DVD and Blu-ray, titled, Martin Scorsese's World Cinema Project."
And add at the end of the paragraph a sentence listing the titles and release years of the six films in the fourth set: https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/6183-martin-scorseses-world-cinema-project-no-4 Michaelavolio (talk) 05:39, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Goncharov
editAt what point do we allow at the very least, a footnote about Goncharov as a social movement and Scorsese’s social influence? Just saying. 2600:1700:38A0:1FA0:DDB7:A3D:5BF6:E35F (talk) 17:08, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
- When enough reliable secondary sources discussing it exist to demonstrate WP:DUEWEIGHT for inclusion. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:23, 1 December 2022 (UTC)
- We have definitely reached this point. There are 19 sources cited on the Goncharov article. We need at least a sentence in there linking to the article itself. Question is do we put it in the legacy and honours section? or possibly in the careet section, but whether in 1970s or 2020s i don't know DParkinson1 (talk) 10:41, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think that in the 2020's section there could be a mention of Scorsese's acknowledgement of the Goncharov meme, and in the legacy section there could be a brief summary of the origin and spread of Goncharov. Maybe the Goncharov article could be linked in 'see also'? Considering that The New York Times, Neil Gaiman, Ryan Reynolds, Lynda Carter, and Scorsese himself responded to it, I'd say it is pretty noteworthy Echopraxia (talk) 01:36, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Collaboration
editI redlinked Scorcese's frequent collaborator David Tedeschi, and hope that a fan might create an article for him. He certainly seems to deserve it, for his editing and directing. Activist (talk) 16:04, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

editSecond-to-last paragraph in 1973-1989: "That year, he had signed a deal with upstart major The Walt Disney Studios to produce and direct features, following the success of The Color of Money, and the company is currently soliciting material for possible development, and decided not to decide on projects he had hoped to produce under the company's two-year agreement with the studio, and the decision Scorsese wants to hire established directors like Elia Kazan and Arthur Penn." This sentence is a mess, unless it's a direct quote (it's not marked as such). Needs either a rewrite or some indication it's quoting someone. 74.109.239.102 (talk) 13:10, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
