Matiene (Matan=Madan) is the kurdish name of Medes (Engelish). Ojanfar (talk) 14:09, 21 November 2009 (UTC)
See Mitanni and Indo-Aryan superstrate in Mitanni talk pages for discussion of the Indo-Aryan element in Mitanni. This article is on Matiene (place) and Matieni (people), not on Mitanni. There is dispute over whether this Indo-Aryan element really is Indo-Aryan, meaning the Indic branch after Indo-Iranian split into Indic and Iranian, or whether it was Indo-Iranian before the split. The person or persons who keep changing this to Armeno-Aryan are asserting a political claim that all the region should be Armenian (Greater Armenia (political concept)) and attempting to alter history and linguistics to justify this goal. Armeno-Aryan is a term used by those who believe Armeno-Phrygian languages split from Indo-Iranian after they split from Greek. Most linguists believe Armeno-Phrygian languages are closer to Greek, but it has nothing to do with either Matiene or Mitanni. The Indo-Aryan superstrate in Mitanni definitely is not as old as the split between Armenian and Indo-Iranian, therefore it is definitely not Armeno-Aryan. In any case, repeatedly inserting false information just to promote a political agenda is vandalism and prohibited. Mike Nassau (talk) 17:44, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
