References

edit

Some of the material isn't referenced, which is problematic with some biographies. This section was cut, for that reason:

"At one point, when Methot was depressed, she slashed her wrists (again, played down by the press thanks to their studio)."

It could be returned, to the article, if a reliable reference could be found for it. -Laboris Dulcedo (talk) 12:30, 11 February 2012 (UTC).Reply

Birthplace

edit

According to the 1910 census she was born in Illinois and was still living there. Her father moved later to Oregon since his grave is there. 24.200.206.181 (talk) 14:31, 14 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Multiple Spelling Mistakes

edit

I noticed that Methot is referenced as "Method" in multiple places, e.g.: 1. "Though the press at the time reported that Method died during an unspecified surgery" 2. "Method became romantically involved with Humphrey Bogart" Not sure if I should just jump in and correct or leave for a bot to resolve? Indieshack (talk) 15:48, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Mayo Methot Wiki Photo Likely In Error

edit

The 'circa 1922' photo featured of Mayo Methot is likely not Mayo, but her paternal grandmother, Minnie Methot.

Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). The April, 22, 1902 Daily Times of Davenport, Iowa reported "Mrs. Methot Makes A Hit" in Paris.

It makes sense that the Wikipedia photo is of Minnie Methot, not only because it doesn't really resemble Mayo, but also given the France reference in the Wiki page:

"Mayo Methot on a Schloss "CPA Theater Stars" series postcard (language is French, though publisher, Schloss, is denoted as being in New York). Auction estimates 1901–1910, but it is ostensibly from c. 1920 based on Methot's age in the photo."

The 1902 news report fits the above auction estimate of 1901-1910 and therefore the above "...ostensibly from c. 1920..." reference is not likely accurate.

Decadency from Zachary Taylor unproven.

edit

I have been trying to tie back Mayo's family history to that of President Zachary Taylor, and Frankly I cannot find anything to support it. That doesn't mean it isn't true. Methot frequently told newspaper reporters that she was descendent. but to date, I can not prove this so. Neither can others. Methot's family tree on Family search only goes back so far, and not a Taylor in bunch ClevelandExPat (talk) ClevelandExPat (talk) 19:27, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
