Classic osmometer experiment with Sucrose - published 1887 by Wilhelm Pfeffer. Sucrose has a molar mass of 342,3 grams per Mol

For   below 30,000 grams per mole, the solute permeates through the membrane and the measurements are inaccurate.[1]

Excuse me for being blunt - above statement is complete rubbish -- Wilhelm Pfeffer did measurements with Sucrose which has molar mass of 342.4 grams per Mol. I can only assume that you misinterpreted the context of the reference which - according to the title - probably deals with polymer membranes - not membranes in general. What the osmometer is really for?

Osmometer is a device for measuring osmotic pressure not molecular weight! Of course it can be used for estimation of polymer mw. Mkotl (talk) 09:46, 11 December 2016 (UTC)Reply
