What about Fairbanks City Transit System, its predecessor?
editIn one of its buses, Christopher McCandless of Into The Wild camped out there and died of starvation or poisoning. Don't we have anything about this system's history, including this? Something to add, no doubt. --70.179.165.67 (talk) 04:24, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Because there are any number of articles out there on Wikipedia, for which filling in the blanks requires more work than parroting whatever you find via a Google search. In all likelihood, "Fairbanks City Transit System" was nothing more than a brand name, with the actual system itself operated by the same private sector entities which had operated transit in Fairbanks for decades (approximately 1935-1975). References to "University Bus Lines" exist, in real and not semi-fictionalized media, stretching from the 1940s to the 1970s. There were news-type items published about that bus years before anyone ever heard of Christopher McCandless or Into the Wild. Since those stories weren't there to promote a book or movie, they may contain relevant historical clues, unlike later stories. Happy hunting.RadioKAOS (talk) 03:25, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
White line and orange line
edittwo lines have recently been added to the macs system, orange and white. I know that the white line goes from the transit center out to north pole, eilson, and salcha, and then back again, 4 times a day. My source is personal experience, and the (hopefully) concurrence of other wikapediers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.67.75.84 (talk) 00:24, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- The routes began operating two or three months ago. As always, there is far more work for me to do on here than I have time to do. That's why no update yet. They also began operating four Thomas Built buses, which they acquired from the People Mover in Anchorage. Anchorage ran these buses as part of their short-lived, failed dial-a-ride service (ca. 2006) in Chugiak, Eagle River and the Hillside neighborhood of Anchorage proper. This is significant in that it's the first time in 30 years that MACS has run something other than Gillig buses.RadioKAOS (talk) 00:56, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
