Oh? and what about NYPD blue? I never even saw this show once in my life. Neither did I see NYPD blue but I knew the show existed. Is this a fact or what, is there anyone international to support this claim?

I was a member of the Metropolitan Police Dept for over 12 years. I worked in Patrol and Special Investigations (Old CID). I never heard anyone call it the Mets! DC Police, MPD, MPDC, Metropolitan Police, and although it is not correct I heard people call us Metro PD, however, Metro PD is Metro Transit Police, because our Transit subway system is called METRO. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.138.184.71 (talk) 17:02, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I never heard it called DCPD either, have you? That's what's given in the info box. The first time I heard that term was in Minority Report, and I found it amusing that they didn't get the name right. I've always called it MPD, and MPDC is obviously valid based on the dc.gov URL for the agency, but DCPD is a totally new one on me and I don't think it's appropriate. -Etoile, 24 June 2009

Service weapons.

Patrol Officers are currently issued the Glock 17, rarely a Glock 19. Detectives have the option of switching to the Glock 19 and Lieutenants and above have the option of using a Glock 17, 19, or 26 as their issued service weapon. Authorized off-duty weapons include the Glock 17, 19, 26, or 43. Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia → Metropolitan Police Department – Both the WP:COMMON and official name of the organization is "Metropolitan Police Department". The current page is simply a redirect to this one. I am not sure how this page got here since the current name is neither official nor common but it seems to be completely unnecessary. • Comment: Because we have articles like Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, it might be better to have the Metropolitan Police Department redirect point to the Metropolitan police page instead. I disagree. Google "Metropolitan Police Department". This article is the primary usage; so much so that the redirect has existed direct to this page without a peep from anyone as to a problem. Further, the DC department is the only police agency that does not include a location modifier in the name. This is significant to DC for historical and political reasons, resulting from the time when the District did not have a consolidated government (the City of Washington, the City of Georgetown, etc. were each their own cities) and the new "metropolitan" department was created to police the entire federal district. In the unlikely event that a user meant to go to any of the other named departments, a simple hat link is all that is necessary to fix the problem, just as is done with other articles where one subject maintains a primary usage. • Oppose. "Metropolitan Police Department" is very generic and clearly ambiguous – it could be referring to any police department in any city in the world. There is no way that the DC police department is the primary topic and Metropolitan Police Department should either be turned into a dab page or redirected to Metropolitan police. As to "the DC department is the only police agency that does not include a location modifier in the name", I am willing to accept it may be the primary topic of all American metro police departments, but the US is not the only country in the world. If that is the case, then certainly Metropolitan Police should not go to London's Metropolitan Police Service, which is just as generic and ambiguous as a name. Certainly the United Kingdom isn't the only country in the world, either. If you or any other editor can find an example of another unqualified "Metropolitan Police Department" in the world, please do so. I completely agree with you that Metropolitan Police should not redirect to Metropolitan Police Service (which should also probably be disambiguated -- but that's a discussion for another day). As to your request to find another unqualified "Metropolitan Police Department", the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is commonly referred to as simply the "Metropolitan Police Department" (see, for example, their website). Crown Victoria Assembly

New to wiki, so I don't know if I'm doing this right. The article mentions the Crown Victoria police cruiser being American made. It's assembled in Canada. I thought it was more Canadian than American. Even the Crown Victoria article states Canada. Patch question

On the right sleeve of MPDC uniforms, there's a patch that says "WASHINGTON, D.C. - THE AMERICAN EXPERIENCE". When did MPDC start wearing these patches? Also, when did the current MPDC patch, the one worn on the left sleeve, start being worn? – Illegitimate Barrister, 02:55, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

The "American Experience" patch was initiated by Ramsey in '98-'99. However while most of us still wear them, they are currently in the process of being phased out. As to the official MPD patch on our left shoulder, there is an early version of it with a blue trim that can be seen in a picture of several MPD officers in their dress uniforms with President Johnson that I believe was taken in the 60's but the patch was never used on day-to-day uniforms until around 1975-78 when the current version of it was initiated. As of 2015 the "American Experience" patch is no longer issued or used, however uniforms issued prior to the change still show the patch on the right sleeve. Updates

As it has been determined that I have a COI related to this article, I would like to recommend the following edits be explored:

-Citations 1-3 should be deleted and the motto should either be deleted as well or changed to the DC motto of "Justia Omnibus". The slogan contained in an email signature is not an agency motto as of 2022.

-The organization and personnel section is out of date. I would be happy to bring it current as I am unsure of how an unrelated person would be able to accurately update and cite this section. I would outline edits here but they are significant.

-The demographics section is out of date

Infobox shortening
