Spelling
editI've noticed some edits recently on the article involving the spelling of 'defenc(s)e', 'defenc(s)eman', etc. To ward off some potential controversy, I just wanted to note that the Canadian spelling is 'defence' and the American spelling is 'defense.' Personally, I don't mind how it is spelled in the article but it probably should be consistent all the way through. Just my two cents...

It's the other way around. Canadian spelling is with the "s". Norum (talk) 17:17, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- I'm afraid not. The article defenceman (ice hockey), states 'defence' as the Canadian spelling and 'defense' as the American. Furthermore, if you refer to the article's talk page, you'll see a lengthy discussion on which spelling is preferred for ice hockey here. The consensus was the Canadian spelling. Furthermore, Wikipedia's Manual of Style dictates that articles' choice of spelling should be consistent with its strongest regional tie. One could argue that Green does play for an American team, but I think the fact he was born in Canada takes priority.
Orlandkurtenbach (talk) 00:03, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting. I was unaware of the 'strong national ties' policy. I do agree that the fact that he is Canadian then should trump the fact he plays for a US team.

Iam from Hamilton myself and have been writing with "s" all the time. Norum (talk) 00:13, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- That may be so, but I hope you can understand why Wikipedia cannot conform to any one user's policy. Orlandkurtenbach (talk) 20:47, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
Signature
editIf anyone can, is it possible to put someone's signature onto the page? I would love to see Mike's Autograph up here. Gkeebler (talk) 19:55, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
