Metropolitan Water District vs Department of Water and Power
editFirst, there was no need to disambiguate the link "Metropolitan Water Board" as no such agency ever existed in Los Angeles. It is the Metropolitan Water District which had its offices in the Million Dollar Theatre's office building.
Secondly, I don't know where it began (though I suspect this page, the fourth paragraph of which contains the earliest example I can find), but I'm seeing much conflation of two agencies; The Department of Water and Power of the City of Los Angeles and the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. William Mulholland was the head of the predecessor of the city's DWP, the city-owned Bureau of Water Works and Supply. The separate MWD was established in 1928, at a time when Mulholland had already been chief engineer of the city's much older agency for ages.
The MWD was formed with the purpose of acquiring water supplies for areas of Southern California outside the City of Los Angeles. Though today's Los Angeles DWP gets some of its water from the still-independent MWD, there was in 1928 no connection between the two, and Mulholland never ran the MWD. Neither Mulholland or the LADWP ever had offices in the Million Dollar Theatre's office building.
I've removed the false information from this article and corrected the wiki-link to the Metropolitan Water District article. Whyaduck 23:27, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
Recent history (2000s)
editThe section on the 2000s seems to need some updating, with more specific information about the church and the closing and the reopening, if anyone has that information. Jaardon (talk) 22:17, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
- It would also be great if someone could explain what appear to be a barber shop and cantina/bar thing upstairs behind the balcony. Not being used anymore, but since when and what was that all about!? jengod (talk) 02:22, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Pepe Crow's comments
editRelocated from the main article page: {jengod (talk) 02:22, 5 December 2011 (UTC)}
My name is Pepe Crow: International singer and Musician from Ecuador. I came to sing at the Million Dollar theater on January 1961 and had the honor to share the stage with the great Dolores del Rio. who performed on the stage, as an actress, on a short sketch along with Mexican actor Jorge Martinez de Hoyos. The other performers on that historic week were: the comedy act of "Los Xochimilcas"; the dancers Mitsuko y Roberto; Trio "Copacabana"; the Spanish flamenco Group "Los Piconeros"; the Mexican singer Ramona Ponce "La Preferida" and the guitarist Haro Muñoz. The second time I came, playing the accordion, the guitar and the Paraguayan harp at the Million Dollar theater, was in 1966. In those ten days, I shared the stage with Lalo Gonzales "El Piporro"; Los Tres Diamantes; José Jasso; Martha Romero; Emily Cranz and percussionist Leo Acosta.
I hope that the revitalization of downtown Los Angeles, which is taking place in this year of 2011, will give a "New Life" to those beautiful Movie Palaces in the area of Broadway Avenue. Those magnificent theaters such as the "Million Dollar", "The United Artists", the "Orpheum", etc. should come back to brighten up our City.
Title : Theater or Theatre
editSorry for my bad english, I'm french.
The spelling "theater" has been corrected three years ago, but the title of this article remains with "Theater". Should it be changed to "Theatre", that would be the same way of writing Grauman's Chinese Theatre ? According to this, it's "re" and not"er". Thanx for the answers.--Rehtse (talk) 08:10, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
- It only took seven years, but I changed the article title to the correct spelling. Perhaps your English is not "perfect", but you were smarter than us English speakers to detect this error, seven years before we did! haha - bien joué(e)! Keizers (talk) 22:12, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
