proposed merger
editI propose that the other page be made re-direct with this page serving as the main article. I'd wait till the 31st for comments and then carry out the merger. --Gurubrahma 18:27, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

neutrality
editThis is a biased article about mithun. He was working as a small time actor in low budget films after a few initial hits. This article is like an eulogy.
seriously doubt whether this article was written in the right sense...
..people whose social status can at best be described as modest -
That just cracked me up..

cult status
editI think there should be a category about his cult-status among a certain sub-class of movie audiences.. There is no denying the fact that some of his ardent admirers derive their entertainment out of what was intended to be very serious scenes by the filmmaker. It needs to be presented in a NPOV way. --Rev.bayes 00:11, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
There is no mention of his cult following in Russia , where thanks to cold war indian movies were very popular and remebered even today. One of the reasons he was inducted in a supporting role in Salman Khan's "Lucky" was his popularity in russia ( where Lucky was shot) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.16.91.170 (talk) 20:48, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Very good actor?
editI think the line "Mithun is a very good actor" (Personal life- first paragraph) simply sounds like a personal opinion of the writer and should be removed.Serialno9 (talk) 06:48, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Discussion On Adding Date OF Birth
editWhen I went to include date of birth, I saw someone has requested not to include the information without having reliable source. I have this information. I want to know what do others think? Is it reliable? Thanks. --Tito Dutta (Talk) 17:38, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think this is a reliable source. --- Managerarc™ talk 14:57, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- I did not make change, I proposed it, I'll look for some other references. Thanks!--Tito Dutta (Talk) 08:33, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Proposed change
editThis line: Chakraborty has appeared in about 250 Hindi films, as well as a number of Bengali, Oriya and Bhojpuri pictures.
Proposed change: Chakraborty has acted mainly in Hindi and Bengali movies, as well as a number of Oriya and Bhojpuri pictures.
Thanks!

- The article is open for editing. You can make the change yourself.--- Managerarc™ talk 14:58, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
- I am not making any change currently. Further discussion needed before making change, Oriya and Bhojpuri Movies have been linked, but, Chakraborty's main fields Hindi and Bengali Films have not been linked. --Tito Dutta (Talk) 08:33, 29 June 2011 (UTC)
Awards
editI removed the links for the award subsection titles. It wouldn't be a bad idea to incorporate them some other way, though. Maybe having a short intro into the bullet lists? Leefkrust22 (talk) 00:47, 30 December 2011 (UTC)
Place of birth
editOne editor has stated that Chakraborty "was born is Barisal , Bangladesh , not in Kolkata. He has admitted that in many of his interviews." Fine, but he PROVIDES NO EVIDENCE. What interviews? Cite them. Can any other editors help with this issue of his place of birth? Regards, George Custer's Sabre (talk) 06:30, 27 October 2015 (UTC)
- @GorgeCustersSabre: This contentious bit was still in the article, disruptively added repeatedly by IPs and still unsourced. I couldn't find single RS source for it those that were there most likely being WP:CIRCULAR or editable databases. I did come across official government records and have added those here. This article should be monitored ause as seen by the article history the IPs are not likely to relent anytime soon. Gotitbro (talk) 04:11, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Proposed Cleanup
editSo...there is a lot of fluff in the main article. Though i do not have the experience to edit it in order the remove the warning template from 2014, I will try and remove words such as "best", "superhit" etc, unless justified by the source. If anyone is opposed, just revert or stop me. I will wait ~24 hours.
Also:
"He was also widely recognized as an action hero in films such as Jagir, Jaal, Dilwaala, Watan Ke Rakhwale and Waqt Ki Awaz. His performances never won any award in 1986 and 1987 as the Filmfare Awards were never announced due to technical reasons. As Chakraborty always had higher number of releases, sometimes it affected the business of his own films, as happened in 1989, where he had a record 19 films."
Isn't the above unsourced content considered original research? It is the last piece of information in the "Debut and stardom (1976–1990)" subsection.
Thank you in advance for any advice -User8654 20:05, 28 August 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by User8654 (talk • contribs)
March 2021 - birth date and place
editAs per the Rajya Sabha source, he was born on 16 June 1950 in Kolkata. Since the website generates a random link for all members it can be navigated to using this link. GO to C tab in the link, it opens a list of members with surnames beginning with 'C'. Then click on the link Chakraborty Shri Mithun. Once there, open the Bio tab. All info about birth date, education, birth place and spouse is there. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 07:26, 1 March 2021 (UTC)
−== Mithun Chakrabarty's Birthplace ==
142.254.1.91 (talk) 03:41, 26 March 2021 (UTC)Here are the links: each mentions he was born in Barisal district of Bangladesh. Actually, come to think of it, long time ago when he toured or visited Bangladesh, he did give an interview for Bangladesh Television, where he happily admitted he was from Bangladesh, expressed his gratitude for love of the audience and said the words “I am from this land and whenever you call me, I will come.” of that sort. Anway, the links follow: (1) Timeless Indian Melodies (https://www.facebook.com/TimelessIndianMelodies/posts/mithun-chakraborty-was-born-in-barisal-then-in-east-bengal-and-now-bangladesh-on/2909144249119148/) (2) Happy Birthday, Mithun Chakraborty: 5 interesting facts about the dancing star (https://www.india.com/viral/happy-birthday-mithun-chakraborty-5-facts-about-the-dancing-star-76549/) (3)Tollywood legend Mithun Chakraborty joins BJP at Modi’s Kolkata rally (https://www.dhakatribune.com/world/south-asia/2021/03/07/actor-mithun-chakraborty-joins-bjp-at-pm-modi-s-kolkata-rally) (4) https://dailyasianage.com/news/68224/mithun-chakraborty (https://dailyasianage.com/news/68224/mithun-chakraborty) (5) Mithun Chakraborty (https://historica.fandom.com/wiki/Mithun_Chakraborty) (6) Mithun Chakraborty set to perform in Dhallywood film | daily sun (https://www.daily-sun.com/printversion/details/70085/Mithun-Chakraborty-set-to-perform-in-Dhallywood-film) Do we need more? I understand he has been in politics, and that may explain why he wants to create a distance with his birthplace. Still, for authenticity’s sake, we should know as much facts as as we can. 142.254.1.91 (talk) 03:41, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Facebook is not reliable in Wikpedia and neither is historica.fandom.com as per WP:UGC. And not in a single news source above, he self-declares that he is from Barisal or says anything like “I am from this land and whenever you call me, I will come.”. All these sources themselves declared that the person was born in Barisal, studied in Scottish Church, in a language which which looks like a case of WP:CIRCULAR (copied from Wikipedia) since in some versions of this article, these things were mentioned. Rajya Sabha government source is self-declared and it was from the time he was nominated by TMC party, thus trumps over these sources. If you find a latest interview video, in which he explicitly says he was born in Barisal, bring it here. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 08:58, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- IPs, instead of POV pushing Barisal, bring reliable source here, an interview perhaps for WP:CONSENSUS. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:31, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Source verification in lead
editI've added a FV tag to a statement in the lead as when I looked at the source it didn't match what was in the article. The article has "He then appeared alongside Sridevi and Moushmi Chatterjee in the action drama film Waqt Ki Awaz, which too went on to become a hit, followed by semi-hits in Charnon Ki Saugandh and Jeete Hain Shaan Se." Looking at the source [1], it classifies films in 1988 into certain classifications. Waqt Ki Awaz is listed as BB (Overflow), not a hit. Charnon Ki Saugandh is listed as B1 (commission earner) while Jeete Hain Shaan Se is in The Rest. This source in no way supports the statement. In addition, phrases like "hit" and semi-hit" are not professional phrasing and absolutely need to be attributed to who is calling them film as such. Ravensfire (talk) 16:22, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
