Talk:Modern system of ranked Shinto shrines

Rank ordering

edit

The Imperial Shrines are ranked/ordered following Ponsonby-Fane's 1938 listing. This means, for example, that Shiramine Shrine and Minase Shrine are included in the 2nd class because they were not raised to kanpei taisha until 1940. However, Nan'yō Shrine is in the 1st class category because I didn't know what else to do with a shrine which did not yet exist in 1938. There may be a better list to use as our template, but this at least represents a good first draft .... --Tenmei (talk) 19:29, 26 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

I couldn't find Ise Grand Shrine here at all, not any explanation of why it was not listed. This seemed rather strange, since it is supposed to be the pre-eminent Shinto shrine in Japan. I had to go to the Japanese language page, which includes asentence stating that since the authorities intended for it to be ranked above all other shrines it was deliberately not given a ranking on the list. That might be a good explanation to add to this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.249.82.211 (talk) 16:39, 16 November 2012 (UTC)Reply
Yes -- and according to "Nationwide List of Ichinomiya," several shrines seem to be missing from the tables:
This is curious. --Ansei (talk) 15:15, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I know it's a decade later but I fixed this. A lot of ichinomiya are actually relatively obscure and not on this list. Same with Soja shrines. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 01:35, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I want to add them to this list sometime though, same with the Soja shrines, as I did with all the Beppyo shrines. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 01:37, 12 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Anyone willing to separate the location into two columns so we can sort by prefecture?Correctron (talk) 00:37, 1 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Naminoue-gū (not jinja)

edit

The Naminoue Shrine is not a "Jinja" (神社), but instead a "Gū" (宮). It clearly says that on all the signs and charms there. ––180.7.58.61 (talk) 14:34, 23 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Script errors

edit

This article is in the hidden category Category:Pages with script errors. That is due to "Lua error: too many expensive function calls" which is also hidden due to a broken template hiding the error (the article is also in Category:Pages with too many expensive parser function calls). The problem is that there are 618 calls to {{ill}}. Something will have to happen to trim that because articles cannot remain in important error-tracking categories. If necessary, I can replace the {{ill}} calls with a probably red link to a page at enwiki. If someone wanted, it is possible to link to another language with syntax like

Script errors gone Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 04:02, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. Johnuniq (talk) 04:16, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
It seems a bit more is needed because the article is still in Category:Pages with too many expensive parser function calls. That would be due to there being too many templates testing whether a page exists, which is what ill does. There is an option in preferences to display hidden categories. Alternatively, the categories can be seen by clicking "Page information" in the left sidebar of the article. Johnuniq (talk) 04:44, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is no longer in that category either now Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 06:44, 20 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
