This guy's going to be in the news for a while, we should probably get a photo of the guy.--70.178.75.142 (talk) 00:20, 30 December 2008 (UTC) (2ltben)Reply

Voanews.com would be a good source: photos credited to VOA reporters (only) may be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, as these are Public Domain. Any photos under copyright are out of bounds for us to use. T L Miles (talk) 20:28, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't know much about copyright, but how does this one look?--Thomas.macmillan (talk) 21:00, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
VOA tends to add a white frame with the photo credit: this one is Agence France Press (AFP). They don't do that much photojournalism. It usually accompanies special assignments, and in the case of VOA photo credits the credit will either read just the name of the reporter (usually the same as the by-line) or "VOA Photo: Joe Bloggs".
VOA is PD because every US Federal government employee's work is PD. Other acceptable sources are the government press agency of Brasil (who release everything under the GPL) and the US Embassy in Conakry or the State Department. If anyone can track down the copyright regulations for the government of Guinee their official websites may be PD, but most governments aren't, and the folks at Commons tend to take a "restricted until proven usable" pov. There ARE rules about Fair Use for JUST en.wikipedia, but living people tend to be a hard slog to justify to those who patrol these things. T L Miles (talk) 21:37, 30 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
How about this one from this article? AndrewRT(Talk)
This has no attribution. Sometimes voa images will have VOA in the imagename. This looks like a video capture. Sometimes this is VOA video, sometimes it is from local sources that they steal. The folks over at commons tend to be hard*sses about these things, and if we upload it without a clear idea of what the license is, it will be deleted in short order (in my experience). T L Miles (talk) 23:05, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

This is the only picture of him I found that is clearly in public domain: [1]. BTW, the website says the author is "T L Miles", is that you? :) Offliner (talk) 13:12, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I uploaded it to commons: US Military photo, and thus is Public Domain. It is not a photograph of Moussa Dadis Camara, and far as I can tell. T L Miles (talk) 16:46, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
Just noticed that myself. The website also doesn't say it's him. Offliner (talk) 16:46, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've already checked all the sites mentioned in this section, but couldn't find a pic of him. Any other hints where we could find one? Or maybe we could use a copyrighted picture under fair use? Offliner (talk) 16:54, 10 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Title

edit

We call him "President of Guinea". But is he President of the Republic, as that implies, or merely president of the National Council for Democracy and Development? If the latter, we should not call him "President of Guinea." john k (talk) 16:31, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

I haven't seen the official Guinean sources, but Jeune Afrique is calling him "President of the junta (or of the CNDD) and head of state", and the quote the new PM as calling Camara "le président du Conseil national pour la démocratie et le développement..., le capitaine Moussa Dadis Camara". If someone has Guinean government sources, that would probably trump this. 1/2. T L Miles (talk) 23:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
On the other hand, here's a source saying he's declared himself "President of the Republic". (" le capitaine Moussa Dadis Camara, président de la République autoproclamée de la Guinée" 1. If that what the Guinean government says, that's what we have to call him. If third parties call him something different, that can be reported as well, but I don't think anyone denys that the CNDD is the defacto government of Guinea. T L Miles (talk) 23:17, 6 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
It is, so far as I can gather, the only government of Guinea. Assembly President Somparé, who should be president under the constitution, does not seem to be claiming the role. Beyond that, though, it doesn't seem that we have any clear source as to what title Camara is using - we have some that say "President of the CNDD", and others that say "President of the Republic". john k (talk) 21:35, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
See: Le Président de la République face au corps diplomatique accrédité en Guinée from the website of the government of Guinea. They call him "Président de la République le Capitaine Moussa Dadis Camara" and "le Chef de l’Etat", so what is there now is correct. T L Miles (talk) 21:51, 7 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Alright, sounds good. john k (talk) 00:45, 8 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Religion

edit

The Russian wikipedia says he's a Muslim. The most of Guineans are Muslims. There's no external link to the statment that he's a Christian. 77.127.121.211 (talk) 15:14, 31 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, if I am right in thinking that "Moussa" is a varient of "Musa", this would tend to support the idea that he is from a Muslim background. Greenshed (talk) 21:22, 31 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
However, http://www.guineenews.org/articles/article.asp?num=200812264250 states that "Moussa Dadis Camara est un chrétien, marié et père de famille.", indicating that he is a Christian. Greenshed (talk) 17:43, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Protest

As an acting member of the German Airborne Forces I most strongly discourage the fraudulant use of the German Fallschirmjäger insignia on the baret of this Gentleman. It is true that a good number of Guinean troops (among other contingents from west african states) get trained at Infantery Academy in Hammelburg/Franconia. Nevertheless as far as records of the Academy are accurate he has never been part of any training there. But even IF he had been trained at some time in the past this does not imply the right to bear an other nation's insignia for the sole purpose of imposing on skill he probably might not have. Let alone any discussion of honour coming with this insignia. IMHO the same goes for the Givet badge of the French Army combat/commando training course. But for that I am not allowed to make any unproven speculations and accusations. With deep disappointment. Glück Ab.--Infanteriesoldat (talk) 11:23, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maybe he's just wearing it to look tough and "cool". (Any thoughts on improving the article? The talk page is not a Camara forum.) --an odd name 14:18, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
The past twelve months eight people of my very unit died in favour of what this insignia stands for. What would you say if he would bear a USMC shirt or the COA of the Prince Of Wales (depending on the country your coming from)? See? I DO NOT want to start a most surely pointless discussion here. But I would highly appreciate if the image would be exchanged with a more modest one. Can't you retrieve an image from the ministry of propaganda (pardon: ministry of public relations) of Guinea..? --Infanteriesoldat (talk) 22:01, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, we are not going to change the image because of your concerns. WP:Verifiability, not truth, etc. Also, Wikipedia is not censored. Offliner (talk) 01:44, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Term end.

Can we be sure that his term officially ended on the date of his wounding? СЛУЖБА (talk) 23:40, 18 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Missing informamtion around arrest before trial=

There is an abrupt reference to the present trial but no information leading up to it. I wonder if another editor might fill in that gap?Emmentalist (talk) 09:17, 7 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
