The result of the move request was: Consensus to move away from the current title but no consensus on which was the most appropriate. The article has been moved to Kerala State Muslim Students Federation. If a separate RM to decide which is the primary topic is needed, feel free, but consensus to remove the extraneous abbreviation was clear. Muslim Students Federation - MSFMuslim Students Federation – The abbreviation shouldn't be part of the article name; the target is currently a redirect to a different organisation, the All India Muslim Students Federation Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 14:20, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Relisting. Jerm (talk) 18:32, 26 February 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Worldbruce: Your thoughts on this, given your prior involvement in the All India Muslim Students Federation redirect? Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 14:21, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
There have been many Muslim Students Federations. "In Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Gonda and Ballia, rival Muslim Students Federations had come into existence by August-September 1938. In practically every case the guiding spirit was the secretary of the local Muslim League."[1] Their scope varied from a single college to a province, such as the UP Muslim Students Federation in the United Provinces. Most important was the Punjab Muslim Students Federation. The All India Muslim Students Federation became a sort of umbrella organization for them. When speaking of one of them, scholars sometimes use a disambiguated name, e.g. "Rawalpindi MSF", but when context is clear sometimes just write "Muslim Students Federation", e.g. "Celebrations in Mysore City in 1942 were typical. The Muslim League, Muslim Students' Federation, and Muslim League Civil Defence Council all had a hand in the arrangements."[2] The various MSFs' main goal was independence, and most of them faded from the scene after partition. In many cases either the location left India, or the Muslims did.
You are correct that the initialism "MSF" should not be part of the Muslim Students Federation - MSF article title. The full name of that organization is probably Kerela State Muslim Students Federation. They would no doubt like to appropriate the name Muslim Students Federation and the MSF mantle, as if they are the true organization and the only one that matters. To me that smacks of the arrogance and ignorance of youth, and exacerbates Wikipedia's recentism problem. They could argue that Muslim Students Federation is the most recognizable name of their organization, but that's only true in the context of Kerala and in the present day. I would give more weight to the precision criteria and move it to Kerala State Muslim Students Federation. The redirect Muslim Students Federation could be turned into a disambiguation page. I don't feel strongly about it, though. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:19, 12 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
