Translation of Songs and Albums Titles
editHello everybody! I talk to Frechmen! I have a task for you :) PLEASE! Could you translate all titles of her albums and songs? (Including the working title of TBA album (2008). Please! For exemple: Avant Que L'ombre (Before the Shadow...) and the others like that :) Please
Most successful artist
editJohnny hallyday has sold more albums than she has in France. Maybe should the second sentence be removed? guest, 14.8.07
Why would it be removed? She is the most successful FEMALE recording artist. Smartissexy 07:09, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I doubt that as well. But even if she were, her "record in no-1-hits" is complete nonsense. Sardou has had over 20! Maybe she holds the record in Quebec?!? -- 89.0.134.120 (talk)
Although Mylène Farmer is one of the most successful french-candian artists, I think that a care should be taken about her being the most successful one. According to the information i have, she sold around 15 million, which is the same as France Gall. It could be misleading also because both Nana Mouskouri and Celine Dion had outsold Mylène in France. Thefox258 (talk) 20:51, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Well Nan Mouskouri has not outsold her in France, and, yes, Celine Dion has, but Celine Dion is Canadian and it's only with English sales in addition to French language sales has she outsold Mylène, just for clarity here. The 20 million figure comes from her record company, and it seems to be accurate. The real artists that might take offense to the most successful title are Françoise and Edith of course, both powerhouses in their day, but that was a very different era. None the less, I've relabeled her as among the most successful recording artists ever in France. Though culturally, I can't think of anyone besides Jean-Jacques Goldman who has had such a 360 impact on the French music and celebrity scene post 1960's as Farmer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Perennialsiren (talk • contribs) 05:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- The site "Infodisc" which I find realiable has data on CD and single sales. According to it,Nana Mouskouri has outsold Mylene.Thefox258 (talk) 19:38, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
Nana Mouskouri's sales are complete nonsense, and as far as her presence in France goes, she was nearly invisible even at her peak.

France v Canada
editThough I'd love to claim Mme Farmer wholly for Canada, it seems that, although she was born in Montreal, her parents were French and the family later returned to France. - Montrealais
This is incorrect! Her parents were CANADIAN! And she didn't go to France until she was a young adult. It was only years later that Farmer started changing her past, giving wrong accounts, claiming in France she wasn't "really" Canadian because her parents were French (incorrect), then going from having moved to France in her 20's for a singing career, to having moved there at 16 after dropping out of high school, then at 11, then 10 etc. Then she claimed that she had 0 memories of Canada, but in the same breath was found to have said she missed Halloween in Canada the most, and had fond memories of the school bus picking her up. When Canadian fans got wind of this, they asked if she was ashamed of being Canadian so she recanted. Her story changes all the time. It seems Farmer is once again at her old tricks! - I didn't know that. Thanks.
- About the best-known songs.. I thought "Libertine", "Tristana", "Pourvu Qu'Elles Soient Douces", "L'Âme-Stram-Gram" and several songs from Anamorphosée were pretty popular too, though that may reflect my regretfully limited TV experience of her work. -- Kimiko 09:39, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)
The original comment by Montrealais is correct. The comments by Canada23 are not substantiated by a single legitimate source. There are sources that indicate that she was mocked for her Quebecois accent at school in France, and that may have something to do with inconsistent comments made in her early interviews. --2600:8805:BD00:404:8D99:EEB:4A50:7ACF (talk) 14:26, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
- Please provide reliable sources to back this up. The French were, along with the British, the European colonial powers of Canada. As such, there are many French people immigrating to Canada for work, visiting relatives, etc. It's not something outlandish to think her family were French immigrants. Now, if you mean she is really French-Canadian, an ethnic term for Canadians of French colonial ancestry, that would need reliable sources as well.
- If she reportedly spent the first eight or so years of her life in Canada, then it would be expected that she have a Quebec accent. Millions of children are born in Canada to immigrant parents but have Canadian accents because it's the accent they were raised in and the one that they learn in school/growing up (if that makes sense). Clear Looking Glass (talk) 06:27, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
What citizenship does Mrs Farmer have? I suspect French (French parents) and Canadian (born in Canada). Am I correct? David.Monniaux 10:43, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- She's Ms, not Mrs ---alpha- 07:02, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
- Correct, French parents but born in Québec. As Canada practises jus soli and France jus sanguinis, she is thus a Canadian-French dual citizen. 45.74.237.205 (talk) 04:42, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Real name
editInsert from an anonymous in the article.
According to askmen.com, Mylène was born Marie Helene Gauthier; Mylene was a nickname. Refer to: [[1]]
- So what is her real name? Garion96 (talk) 22:16, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
- Despite many rumors, her real name is Mylène Gautier and not "Marie-Hélène Gauthier". Korg (talk) 00:51, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- You got a source for that? So that we can point to that instead of the changing the name once a month. Garion96 (talk) 01:04, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
- I found this [2] for a source and used it in the article. Garion96 (talk) 12:52, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Her birth name is Mylène Jeanne Gautier. A common nickname of French women named Marie-Hélène is Mylène. Perhaps this is where the confusion is setting in. Multiple internet sources have her name wrong. Smartissexy 07:01, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Add more about her music.
editI've read the article, and I've left without information which kind of the music she play. Is it rock, if it is which kind; similar to whom? Punk, metal, disco? How her artistic expression developed? Such essential informations should be the core of the article. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 89.172.32.149 (talk• contribs) 17:34, 15 September 2006 (UTC) .
- Same here. This article says nothing about her music. Her music is the entire reason why she is notable enought to have an article. Someone who is knowledgable of this should improve the article. Berserk798 20:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Because it's very hard to classify her music. Sometimes it is referred to as 'french pop', but imo it's um nowhere near pop. ---alpha- 21:56, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- No one asked for it to be classified. Information about the music is needed. Berserk798 23:34, 24 December 2006 (UTC)
- Maybe the solution is to add the following verbage at the begining of the article: "She has sold more than 20 million CDs. Her fans have a difficult time catergorizing her unique music style into any one specific genre. Generally, most critics consider it French pop" J Simpson 11:04, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yes. This is exactly how it is. Please feel free to add it to the article. -alpha- (talk) 02:12, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

== Honestly, this article is clearly written by fans and non-English speaking as well, the last sentences in the article about her last concert series not being a tour because of the nature of the show is repeated and has lots of mistakes. It denigrates imo the quality of the article. And yes there should be more writte about her music. Dollvalley (talk) 20:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
One source I think we can cite is Michael Freedberg, who is a published journalist, though he also seems to be a big Mylene Farmer fan. He classifies her as a variété française musician in at least two articles written for the Boston Phoenix.99.35.217.42 (talk) 09:38, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
videos
editmore should be written about here movie like videos, since they're a considerable factor in her popularity and fame 70.55.203.112 (talk) 06:00, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Is she married?
editThere should be at least some rumors about her personal life. Does she have kids? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.180.11.76 (talk) 17:38, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
She isn't married, nor does she have children. She's currently in a long-term relationship with renowned French animator Benoît di Sabatino (together since 2002). More on her personal life might be useful, but the woman is so anti-celebrity, there's really not much one can say with authority. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Perennialsiren (talk • contribs) 05:02, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
I think the facts that she isn't married, does not have chidlren and hides her personal life should be added.
Do mylene farmer always was vegan?
editI think she was vegan r at least becoming it from vegetarian since her singing career, because it pretty visible in her songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Centuci (talk • contribs) 18:02, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Mylène Farmer in Eastern Europe and Private life
editHello. In the beginning of the article, I suggest adding that Mylène Farmer knows an important success in Russia and Eastern Europe. "Private life" : Mylène Farmer has been dating Benoît di Sabatino since 2002. Alligators421 (talk) 18:50, 9 October 2019 (UTC)
2022–present:
editThis section needs to be updated to bring it up to date and focus more on the artist and less on the details of her current tour and latest album. The tour and album each have their own Wikipedia page. Details found in those pages (like the slow-reveal announcement of the Nevermore tour) should be deleted from this page.
