Tiruvaymozhi

edit

The alteration of a single letter in a word can change the word's meaning altogether. Thiruvaymozhi has been wrongly spelt as Tiruvaymoli in this page. The correct spelling has already been typed by someone else in the third para.

1. Tiru should be Thiru because Tiru is valid only for those languages which have letters similar to those of Devanagiri. 2. One of the unique features of Tamil is the letter 'zha'. Unfortunately, because many people, especially North Indians, can't pronounce it properly, they use 'la' in the place of 'zha'.

I hence request you to correct such mistakes wherever necessary.

P.S.: The word Tamil should actually be Thamizh. It;s when you use phonetics that you get 'tamiḻ'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.184.176.186 (talk) 18:57, 14 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

The 'ழ' alphabet is spelt as ḻ in English, not as "zh". You can find this virtually in all English translations of Tamil literature by notable linguists, including by Kamil Zvelebil. Tiru is also more accurate than Thiru. Chronikhiles (talk) 09:43, 16 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

What's in a name?

edit

Why is it called Divya Prabandha as opposed to its correct Tamil name Divya Prabandham? Sanskritization? Mr.Falcon (talk) 20:08, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dear Contributers/ Wiki Editors,

The external Links section has been compiled with a lot of research listing sites by the uniqueness of the content, lyrics, meanings or vyahkyanam, as well as araiyar rendition etc.

I repeat what has been stated earlier.

Nalayiram Divya Prabhandam is holiest of holy for Srivaishnavas.

All the above sites are free download - not one of them is paid or promotional.

SO kindly donot tamper with it. Padmavasantha (talk) 08:48, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, it is better to check the Wikipedia:External links for this - there are more external links than the contents in the article.Ssriram mt (talk) 18:13, 14 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Details of Pasurams (Table)

edit
  1. 1. I believe there is a factual error in the 'Details of Pasurams (table). Sl.No 24 Ramanuja Nootrandhadi has only 108 pasurams (Sorce: http://www.tamilvu.org/library/l4210/html/l4210in1.htm, http://srivaishnavam.com/4000pdf/iyarpa.pdf, http://acharya.org/dp/4/rnandi40/rAmanuja-nURRanthAthi-tml.pdf, http://dravidaveda.org/). It is sung by Thiruvarangaththu Amuthanar, in praise of Sri Ramanuja, an Acharya (spiritual teacher) who had immensely contributed to vaishnavism.
  2. 2. In such a case, the total Pasurams will be 3884.
  3. 3. In some variations, Siriya Thirumadal and Peia Thirumadal (Sl.Nos 21 and 22) sung by Thirumangai Alwar, are accounted as 38 and 80 Pasurams respectively (Source: http://www.tamilvu.org/library/l4210/html/l4210in1.htm, http://dravidaveda.org/). In some others they are accounted as 40 and 78 Pasurams respectively (Source: http://srivaishnavam.com/4000pdf/iyarpa.pdf). In either case the total however remains 118.
  4. 4. When such an accounting is made, the grand total of Pasurams comes to 4000, which matches with the name, "Nalayira Divya Prabhandham " (Four Thousand Divine Verses).
