On Wednesday, the Ministry of Education announced the cancellation of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2024, following intelligence reports indicating irregularities in the exam's conduct. The examination, which determines eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship, Assistant Professor positions, and PhD admissions, will be rescheduled. The ministry also stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

According to data from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administered the exam, 9,08,580 candidates took the test on Tuesday, June 18. In a press release, the Education Ministry revealed that the UGC received reports from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) a day after the exam, suggesting a potential compromise in the exam's integrity.

“To ensure the highest level of transparency and sanctity of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 Examination. A fresh examination will be conducted, with details to be shared separately," the ministry announced.https://www.hindustantimes.com/education/competitive-exams/ugc-net-june-2024-exam-cancelled-education-ministry-national-testing-agency-ugcnet-nta-ac-in-latest-news-101718816266419.htmlhttps://pib.gov.in/PressReleaseIframePage.aspx?PRID=2026809
