This article, at present, has several issues, which I feel should be addressed.

  • 1. The lead needs to be expande. See WP:LEAD
  • 2. There should be a development section in the article. e.g. writing, crew, music. See the Halloween franchise.
  • 3. There should be a general overview of the films.
  • 2. The Gates family could be added into a seperate article for National Treasure characters. (e.g. List of National Treasure characters.)
  • 3. Additional references are needed, especially in the awards section. (The awards section, could be added into a new Reception section, part of the general overview of the franchise)
  • 4. The books section should be changed to literature, and all the relevant info can be there.
  • 5. Franchise articles do not (and should not) normally have an infobox.
  • 6. The poster of the first National Treasure should be replaced with a DVD boxset, because the article does not simply represent one film.

I suggest listing this article for peer review, for a more detailed analysis. --EclipseSSD (talk) 19:53, 1 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wrote up the characters list for the series. I'll work on the lead and development section next. I'll probably also write up a short overview for the movies. What should I do conerning the picture and infobox? I don't believe there's a box-set, at least not yet. Mkmwrite (talk) 01:58, 25 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Remove the infobox, and there is a boxset image. Here is a link [1]. It's out in the UK. --EclipseSSD (talk) 15:20, 6 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thomas Gates confusion

edit

In NT1 John Gates said Thomas Gates was his grandfather's grandfather, but in NT2 Thomas Gates became father of Patrick Gates's grandfather which makes him John's grandfather. NT1 Thomas Gates was a young man in 1832 and NT2 Thomas Gates was a father in 1865, so it should be the same Thomas Gates. What's wrong with the generations? --Mato Rei (talk) 17:23, 21 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe it shouldn't be the same Thomas Gates but rather a different Thomas Gates. For any Thomas Gates to be John Adams Gates' "grandfather's grandfather" [1]and to fit in with the rest of the timeline, he would have had to have been born sometime between 1775 and 1790. The character of Thomas Gates in NT1 does not appear to be older than 25 (approximately), making his birth year 1807. It is not possible, if he had been born in 1807, that he could have been the grandfather of the Thomas Gates in NT2 (which he would have had to have been to be John Gates' "grandfather's grandfather"). Additionally, for the Thomas Gates in NT1 in 1832 to be the same Thomas Gates in NT2 in 1865, the Thomas Gates in 1865 would need to be approximately 50 in 1865 if one assumed that Thomas Gates in 1832 was only a 16 year old, for example. The actor did not appear to be portraying a 50 year old. Regardless, as noted by Mato Rei above, there are still missing generations. After trying diligently, I am unable to line up the timelines between the characters in NT1 and NT2, but it is clear that the information contained in this Wikipedia entry is incorrect, specifically the description of Thomas Gates (I do not believe the Thomas Gates in NT1 is the same person as the Thomas Gates in NT2, but rather 2 separate Thomas Gates named after 2 separate historical Thomases - Jefferson and Payne, for example) as well as the Gates Family Tree. If this information is culled from information in the novels, then the source information is inaccurate.--ALRy15 (talk) 02:15, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Books

edit

To the best of my knowledge, while the last two books were solicited on Amazon, they have never been released. If anyone knows any different, please comment. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Avgjoefriday (talkcontribs) 08:00, 17 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

National Treasure 3

edit

There hasn't been any new news about National Treasure 3, I was wondering if someone could check if there is anything new. Its been a year yet nothing has been heard about National Treasure 3. I think if we did find new information that is reliable we must soon open a separate article for it. I have been noted by many viewers/readers wanting a separate article for this film. I hope this is taken under consideration. --Eddyghazaley (talk) 16:17, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Google News Search does not show any news since last summer. It may be in development hell for the time being. We should wait until filming is verified to have begun (per WP:NFF) so we don't create an article that has only unfulfilled expectations. Erik (talk | contribs) 16:39, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

"Gates family tree"

edit

It's pretty ridiculous to include a "Gates family tree" going back to 1568, especially considering that it takes up about 20% of the entire article space. Also, the majority of names listed are utterly irrelevant to either the books or the films, which would make them non-notable, if not listcruft. I suggest it be removed but, if it's available elsewhere on-line, that a link be provided to it. Occam's Shaver (talk) 08:05, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
