Racism controversy

Shouldn’t this be a separate topic? Shouldn’t this be labeled controversies and have its own drop down? 47.203.28.160 (talk) 01:42, 8 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

This needs to be addressed and corrected. Snoop, for example, is NOT an actual family member and is merely nicknamed as such. This is likely the same case with others listed. 24.92.38.147 (talk) 01:43, 7 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Watching the Nick Cannon Show he was talking casual & then all I heard was religious comments saying religious things are best in life & rambling the same comments find religious etc ,etc.

edit

I was astounded to hear proselytizing on a entertaining T V show? I can’t watch this show any longer. Today was my 1st time watching this show so I don’t know if that’s their prologue or style however, It’s not for our family ! It was powerful in its message!! There are multiple people who already mentioned in the talk that he is an open racist. However, there is no mention in this locked article. Wiki must add mention of the controversial statements. Locking the edits is a statement to wiki’s lack of ethics. 100.12.109.97 (talk) 22:26, 23 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

Children's bulleted list

edit

We don't do this with any other well written bio should we don't need to do that here. If you want to include mention of the numerous kids he has, fine, but a bulleted list with names and dates adds nothing to our understanding of the subject. This section needs to be put in prose. We also don't typically include dob of non notable minors, so the same can be here. Malerooster (talk) 18:25, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Any listing of names of children would violate WP:BLPNAME which is designed to preserve some degree of privacy for non-notable people involved with the subject. Binksternet (talk) 18:35, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I created a separate discussion before I saw this new one created. There are bullet points because Nick Cannon has had multiple children with various women so it is easier to understand, but if that's the issue it doesn't have to be a listed in such manner but the information should still be mentioned.
Most articles on public figures usually mention their children's names and birthdates when it has been made public knowledge. For example: Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce, Eminem, Steve Jobs, Dwayne Johnson, Kim Kardashian, and Lil Wayne. Wikipedia:BLPNAME states that "The names of any immediate, former, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject." Cannon's children are named in the Relationships and children sub-section of the Personal life section which is relevant to the article. Additionally, Cannon's former wife Mariah Carey has the names of their twins mentioned in her article. Including the names of children is informative and personal opinion shouldn't be the reason to omit them. Cannon has publicly and proudly announced the birth and names of all his children. Twixister (talk) 19:08, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
As mentioned in my response above, most articles about public figures include the names of their children and date of birth. It does not violate BLP to names family members when this information has been made public knowledge and is well cited. The names and birthdates add understanding to the subject, particularly Cannon who made the news due to the recent and impending births of his children. While I agree a bulleted list isn't really necessary it does help with clarification. Angelina Jolie's article has an entire dropdown chart with the names and birth of her children, most of who are minors. Twixister (talk) 19:16, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Malerooster Since names and birthdates of non notable minors are usually included as seen in the examples I provided in my previous responses. How about the proposed inclusion of the names and birth year of Cannon's children sans the bullet points?
Cannon married singer-songwriter Mariah Carey on April 30, 2008, at her private estate on Windermere Island in the Bahamas. On April 30, 2011, Carey gave birth to fraternal twins, Moroccan Scott and Monroe Cannon. After six years of marriage, the couple separated and Cannon filed for divorce in December 2014. Their divorce was finalized in 2016.
In late 2021, Cannon revealed that he would be celibate for a while, but in January 2022 he announced he was expecting his eighth child.
Cannon has three children, Golden "Sagon" Cannon (b. 2017), Powerful Queen (b. 2020), and Rise Messiah (b. 2022) with model Brittany Bell.
Cannon has twin sons Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir Cannon (b. 2021) with Abby De La Rosa, and they are reportedly expecting a third child.
Cannon had a son, Zen, with model Alyssa Scott, who died of brain cancer at five months old in 2021. Scott revealed in November 2022 that she and Cannon are expecting a second child.
Cannon has a son Legendary Love (b. 2022) with model Bre Tiesi.
Cannon has a daughter, Onyx Ice (b. 2022) with model LaNisha Cole. Twixister (talk) 20:08, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
There are some articles that have this kind of information, for minors who are children of living persons, and those need to be cleaned up. There is no conceivable encyclopedic ground for this kind of detailed information. I don't know why Twixister is so insistent on listing all this information, maybe it's the whole "Nick Cannon has had multiple children with various women", which does NOT need to be clarified by a list. Yes, this display (now repeated here on the talk page) strikes me as salacious. Drmies (talk) 20:20, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Twixister, I can provide 10 times as many well written bios where we do NOT include DETAILED information about non notable minors! As Drmies pointed out, I will probable go to those bios and take a look. Some people feel the same way as you, but the majority of editors feel that this type of detail should not be included. Ultimately, each article falls under editorial discretion. I can live with just the birth years, since that is better, but again, how does knowing the name and age of a non notable minor add to our understanding of the article subject? That is the question that has to be answered about ANY material that is added to an article. --Malerooster (talk) 20:38, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

An editor keeps removing the names and birthdates of Nick Cannon's children in the article. An editor is arguing that it is salacious to name Cannon's children and erroneously tried to justify the removal by attributing it to Wikipedia:BLPNAME. BLPNAME states "The names of any immediate, former, or significant family members or any significant relationship of the subject of a BLP may be part of an article, if reliably sourced, subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject." Cannon's children are named in the Relationships and children sub-section of the Personal life section which is relevant to the article. Additionally, Cannon's former wife Mariah Carey has the names of their twins mentioned in her article. Including the names of children is informative and personal opinion shouldn't be the reason to omit them. Cannon has publicly and proudly announced the birth and names of all his children. There is no justification to removing the names except for personal preference. Twixister (talk) 19:00, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Actually more than one editor keeps removing; I see six different editors removing this stuff in the last three months. The WP:ONUS is on you to achieve consensus for this list of names to stay in the article. You must convince enough editors to overrule the ones who have already indicated that the list is not wanted. You definitely don't have consensus right now. Binksternet (talk) 21:58, 11 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I just removed the "tree" of all of the kids. How about this, start a separate article about Cannon's kids. Sub articles are real cesspools, so that would be perfect for this crap, literally. --Malerooster (talk) 17:15, 16 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Malerooster - I just wanted to say, although it seems like BLPNAME states that names can be allowed if it reliably sourced and public, the instructions for the template instructions also state:
"For privacy reasons, consider omitting the names of living children, unless notable."
I don't know about the consensus for Jolie's page or any other person, but this is about Cannon. BLPNAME ultimately says:
"subject to editorial discretion that such information is relevant to a reader's complete understanding of the subject."
To me, I'm fine with omitting the names. There is already information of when they were born and which of the many women he has had children with. But it seems like some users argue otherwise. Clear Looking Glass (talk) 07:27, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

I Just wanted to ask, what is the difference between Nick's other children and his children with Mariah Carey? Why are their twins named but his other kids can't be? Surely if anything the twins names should then also be removed too? (User:Darce98) 00:03, 13 November 2022 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7C:58F4:AB00:AC09:355F:64C9:53BC (talk)

Children table

edit

Given the discussion in the previous section, "Children's bulleted list", a table summarising the list of his children with their birthdates even without their names[1] is just WP:UNDUE and WP:BLPGOSSIP given the weaker sources. Variations of lists, timelines, and tables have previously been removed on BLP grounds, and we don't do this for other prolific parents. Please don't reinstate before gaining consensus per WP:BLPUNDEL and WP:ONUS. Morbidthoughts (talk) 22:21, 20 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

With the last discussion mentioned by @Morbidthoughts mentioning that the bulleted list of children did not seem to have much due weight, and as of the current version, has removed the bulleted list of children, I've decided to discuss why we're adding all of Cannon's (for lack of better terminology) "baby mamas" and a model who he was briefly engaged to for a couple months in the infobox?

MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE says the infobox should summarize key facts and "the less information it contains, the more effectively it serves that purpose". Does any of this provide any due weight, and why is it relevant that we list every single woman in the infobox just because they had a child with him and/or were engaged to him for mere months? He says that he's a "non-monogamous"[2] person and several of those women mentioned in the infobox come from very brief (possibly "one-night stand"?) relationships whose timelines seem to overlap with other women;[3] he even says that he's not dating and merely co-parenting with some of the women now?[4]

Aren't the mothers of all of his babies (minus Mariah Carey, his ex-wife) and past relationships all covered in detail in the "personal life" section? Clear Looking Glass (talk) 06:33, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
