editYour recent editing history at Malcolm X shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. editHi Twixister!! You're invited: learn how to edit Wikipedia in under an hour. Hope to see you there! This message was delivered by Softlavender (talk) 10:44, 11 November 2017 (UTC) |
Hi!
editI'm afraid I was a bit curt in my dealings with your over at Malcolm X. It's tempting to want to use every interesting fact or impressive quotation from a new source, but at the same time an article can be quickly overwhelmed. I've tried to trim it back to the central points. EEng 19:08, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, Yes you were, but I appreciate you reaching out to me. I mean no malice and I realize as a detail-oriented person that I may have added overwhelming info. I see the edit you did and I agree with a trim, but I think it's important to add Malcolm's Effect on Ali, and that he said he may not have become a Muslim if it wasn't for Malcolm. Also, the Liston fight which Ali invited Malcolm to is a big event and is info most people probably don't know. I've added those 2 points. Please don't remove them, I think that would be a fair compromise. Twixister (talk) 04:25, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Twixister, you have a lot to learn about Wikipedia, and you may be jumping in over your head. Your citations are a mess (I've had to clean massive amounts of trash code from them every time you edit), and beyond that they are in the wrong format, as you can clearly see. When quoting a work that is used more than once in the article, you should be using the format that is common to article -- please look at the References section. Please also learn to indent your talkpage posts with colons (as I have done here) to correctly nest your reply under the post you are replying to. And please always sign your talkpage posts by typing four tildes, and preview your post before saving to make sure that you have done so. If you are indeed a "detail-oriented person", then you need to demonstrate that by learning how to use Wikipedia correctly and by the precision with which you edit Wikipedia. The Wikipedia Adventure (above) will help you, and teach you all the things that we really don't have time to relate. You need to also demonstrate collaborativeness in interacting with others. Please get consensus for your edits on the article's talkpage before continuing to replace them. Thank you. Softlavender (talk) 03:17, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Softlavender, My apologies. Thank you, will do! Twixister (talk) 04:25, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
Hello, Twixister, and welcome to Wikipedia. (I know you registered a few years ago, but almost all of your edits have been made in the past few weeks.) I appreciate the material you have added to Malcolm X, but please keep in mind that Wikipedia is a collaboratory effort. We have very strict rules against edit-warring (repeatedly adding the same material after it's been removed). I understand your enthusiasm, but you need to discuss your proposed changes at Talk:Malcolm X and try to build consensus for them. Also, keep in mind that an encyclopedia article cannot include all verifiable information on a subject, and it is your responsibility to build consensus to include material that has been disputed.
Malcolm X is one of about 5,000 "featured articles" on Wikipedia considered to be among its best, and we expect new content to be consistent with the high quality of existing content. For example, citing web sources may be acceptable on 99% of Wikipedia, but whenever possible, we expect editors to cite published books as sources for featured articles. We expect new footnotes to be consistent with the format already in use for the 300+ footnotes in the article. And we expect editors to discuss their proposed changes when they run into resistance from other editors.
Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:31, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hi, I added my proposed changes on Talk:Malcolm X. Twixister (talk) 04:20, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Hello again, Twixister. Please make sure you keep your signature on the same line as your post. If you remember to always preview your posts and your edits before you save them, this is easy to do. I have fixed this for you on this thread and on the thread above. Softlavender (talk) 04:38, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
Material you included in the above article appears to have been copied from the copyright web page http://articles.latimes.com/1991-10-12/local/me-105_1_redd-foxx/2 and other copyright sources. editThanks for your edits at Tina Turner. However, this has been discussed previously and the consensus then was that the change should not be made, because you are basing the claim on primary sources and because most reliable published sources give her birth name as Anna Mae. Personally, I suspect you may be correct.... but, it needs to be discussed further on the talk page and I will revert your edit until we have this discussion with other editors. Speedy deletion nomination of Bolic Sound
editIf this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Bolic Sound requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. --Nahal(T) 07:36, 13 July 2019 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
edit Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Ike Turner into Ike Turner discography. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:28, 12 December 2019 (UTC)

Rose Marie McCoy
editThanks for your edits and references. However, she was surely known primarily as a songwriter, rather than as a singer - so why change the infobox? And, I question the use of the term "singer-songwriter", which is a term that really didn't exist before the 1960s and usually refers to a particular style of music which is quite different to that in which McCoy worked. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:56, 21 February 2020 (UTC)
- My reasoning is that she was a singer and songwriter, hence singer-songwriter by definition. I changed her infobox to solo artist simply because she released more than one single as a solo artist. She continued to record well after her heyday of songwriting, but I understand your point of view. It can sometimes be tricky because not all singer-songwriters have a particular style. Mariah Carey is a well-known singer-songwriter, but she doesn't play an instrument. Now looking at her page I can see the distinction between saying "singer and songwriter" vs. "singer-songwriter" in the infobox and in the lede, even though she fits into the categories that are about singer-songwriters.Twixister (talk) 01:34, 22 February 2020 (UTC)
Better source request for File:Ike-Tina-Turner-Live.jpg
editThanks for your upload to Wikipedia:
You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete or generic . Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact source (such as web page, or printed document) where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. — JJMC89 (T·C) 00:24, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Sallie-Blair-Squeeze-Me.jpg
editThanks for uploading or contributing to File:Sallie-Blair-Squeeze-Me.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — JJMC89 (T·C) 00:53, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Sallie-Blair-Squeeze-Me.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Sallie-Blair-Squeeze-Me.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

editHi, I'm in direct contact with Suzanne about some inaccuracies in her bio, but you have been reverting those changes. Is she not considered a sufficient source for this info? Ajschorr (talk) 16:57, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, anyone can say that they know the subject of an article. A sufficient source is need when make changes about someone's biography, even if the subject themselves want to change information. Suzanne Mallouk stated in the book Widow Basquiat that she was dating Michael Stewart at the time of his death. There are multiple cited sources to confirm this. The other change I reverted was that her exhibit was sold out. If you have a source that it was sold out then please it, but I've added more cited information about her art career.--Twixister (talk) 23:41, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Latin music albums by Israeli artists requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
Liz Read! Académie du Jazz moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Académie du Jazz, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Recent edit reversion
editIn this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.
I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.
I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 19:43, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- I think your edit was mistake. What was the copyright violation. I see a link to the Oregon Herald which I never referenced. I provided information from books and website with proper citations. You reverted everything.--Twixister (talk) 22:42, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Ways to improve A Father's Story
editHi. I've reviewed your article A Father's Story as part of the New Page Patrolling process. Thanks for creating an article for this notable book. I did notice that quotations make up a significant chunk of the article, including a lengthy quote from a New York Times article. It would be preferable if you could paraphrase these quotes in your own words rather than relying on lengthy direct quotes. Per MOS:QUOTE: brief quotations are fine, but "using too many quotes is incompatible with an encyclopedic writing style and may be a copyright infringement." Replaceable non-free use File:Sly-The-Family-Stone-I-Want-To-Take-You-Higher.jpg
editThanks for uploading File:Sly-The-Family-Stone-I-Want-To-Take-You-Higher.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

File copyright problem with File:Basquiat-leonardo-da-vincis-greatest-hits-1982.jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Basquiat-leonardo-da-vincis-greatest-hits-1982.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Self-Portrait as a Heel (Part Two).jpg
editThank you for uploading File:Self-Portrait as a Heel (Part Two).jpg.
Thank you.

Confused sfn refs in Truman Capote
editHi, in this edit to Truman Capote you used {{Sfn|Clarke|2005|p=442}} and {{Sfn|Clarke|2005|p=508}}. Unfortunately there are two works "Clarke 2005" used in the article, namely Clarke, Gerald (2005). Capote: a biography (2nd Carroll & Graf ed.). New York: Carroll & Graf. ISBN 9780786716616. and Clarke, Gerald (2005). Too Brief a Treat: The Letters of Truman Capote. Random House. ISBN 978-0-375-70241-9., so it is impossible for readers to know which you intended. This is a common problem with short citations. If you could fix the references it would be appreciated. DuncanHill (talk) 17:08, 29 August 2024 (UTC)

Your contribution to Salvador Dali
editHello there
I reverted your edit because if we mention every work Dali did in his career the article would be nothing but a list of works. None of the major scholarly monographs on Dali mention this work and it is not considered one of his major or notable ones. The wikipedia policy on undue weight given to minor aspects of the subject applied here. Wikipedia:UNDUE
As for his election to the Academia Real de Bellas Artes in 1973, do you have a better source for that? As far as I can see, the link you provided doesn't say this.
