I have a professional academic connection with Professor Nigel Mason and would like to suggest the following concise addition for review by uninvolved editors:
Mason served as Short-Term Scientific Mission Coordinator for COST Action TD1308, Origins and evolution of life on Earth and in the Universe (ORIGINS), a European network active from 2014 to 2018.

- Thank you for pointing this out. The source is the official COST Association page for Action TD1308:
- It lists the Action title as Origins and evolution of life on Earth and in the Universe (ORIGINS), the dates as 15/05/2014–14/05/2018, and under Action Leadership Positions it lists Prof Nigel Mason as STSM Coordinator.
- Kind regards Angelicairons (talk) 05:22, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Angelicairons, we generally do not include things which are routine for academics, please read WP:MILL. All academics advise students, get and administer grants, give talks etc. Unless these are really different none of this is normally included. My understanding is that the COST programs are modest grants to facilitate collaborations among academics in the EU, and perhaps a few affiliated academics. As such an administrative position would be WP:MILL. Ldm1954 (talk) 11:03, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Ldm1954: Thank you for explaining. I understand the concern about routine academic/service roles under WP:MILL.
- My reason for suggesting this particular item was that COST Action TD1308 ORIGINS appears to have had a broader institutional legacy in establishing European astrobiology: the European Astrobiology Institute page states that the EAI followed COST Action ORIGINS, and the COST page lists Professor Mason as STSM Coordinator. However, I accept that inclusion is for uninvolved editors to decide
- Thank you again for the clarification of your point. Angelicairons (talk) 11:19, 27 July 2026 (UTC)
