FROM THE "NORTH BROTHER ISLAND" TALK PAGE
editOff-limits
editThe Wikipedia article, among many others I've read, mention that island is now "off limits", but nothing beyond that. Does anyone know why? And under whose authority? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Recoil42 (talk • contribs) 15:15, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
The city owns it and is keeping it as a bird sanctuary, therefore it is illegal for anyone to go there.--Carpe Diem (talk) 02:37, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
If the island is off limits then why does the article say "The Island is now a thriving neighborhood where many people live" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.114.230.47 (talk) 22:17, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
I think this is wrong "The Island is now a thriving neighborhood where many people live" I have found no indication that anyone lives there - unsigned
- This article from February 2012 illustrates the current abandoned and isolated nature of the island. - Dravecky (talk) 08:48, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Link to disambiguation page not working
editThe disambiguation page redirects back to this page. It is not possible to reach the dismabiguation information. Please fix this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.10.94.35 (talk) 00:24, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Coordinate error
edit{{geodata-check}}
The following coordinate fixes are need for North Brother Island: 40 48' 02"N, 073 53' 57"w —Nstrang (talk) 22:41, 21 January 2011 (UTC).
- The coordinates seems ok to me. --Alberto Fernandez Fernandez (talk) 11:10, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
There are two pairs of "Brother Islands"
editThere seems to be another island with the same name in the Indian Ocean, part of the Andaman archipelago: North Brother Island. How should we handle this? A disambiguation page? At least there should be an article and link to the other one. --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 21:50, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
This page needs a map — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.179.36.109 (talk) 14:44, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

FROM THE "SOUTH BROTHER ISLAND" TALK PAGE
editUntitled
editI think the US must use a different system of measuring from the rest of the world. The two islands having a total area of 81,000 square meters? That's 80 kilometers!! The size of a small city! The same sort of thing is written in the article on Liberty Island. Andy Johnston (talk) 14:17, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
I take it you meant 80 square kilometres. 1000 square meters does not equal 1 square kilometre); 1 square kilometre is 1,000,000 square metres (1000 X 1000). so 81,000 square metres is 0.081 square kilometres Seamus42 (talk) 23:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Rates
editDoes anyone know how much council rates/taxes were paid yearly when it was owned after purchasing for $10? I found a dubious source that said the land was taxed at $2,000 per year per 1,000 squre meters! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.111.133.22 (talk) 08:04, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
There are two pairs of "Brother Islands"
editIt seems that there is another island with the same name in the Indian Ocean, part of the Andaman archipelago: North and South Brother Islands. How shall we handle it? A disamb page? At the very least we need and article and a see-also link... --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 21:53, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
Proposed merge with North Brother Island, East River
editThe two articles talk about a pair of very similar islands. Epicgenius(give him tirade • check out damage) 15:44, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

NEW DISCUSSIONS FOR "NORTH AND SOUTH BROTHER ISLAND" BELOW THIS POINT
Dangling Modifier
editI know Wikipedians seem to be inexplicably obsessed with using dangling modifiers, but I would like to point out that the first sentence has a dangling modifier.
North and South Brother Islands are a pair of small islands in New York City's East River, situated between the Bronx and Rikers Island.
I suggest the following revision:
North and South Brother Islands are a pair of small islands situated between the Bronx and Rikers Island in New York City's East River. HullIntegrity (talk) 12:03, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
- Nope, you're giving specifics (between...) before you give the general (East River). Intercourse the "dangling modifier", intelligibility and logical presentation of information counts more. BMK (talk) 19:11, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
- OK. Since this article is not really in my neck of the woods figuratively (though I live a very short kayak trip from the islands) I will defer to the bigger modifier. HullIntegrity (talk) 21:01, 6 June 2014 (UTC) And the most recent edit works for me. HullIntegrity (talk) 21:03, 6 June 2014 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Not moved. A disambiguation has been created at North and South Brother Islands. Wbm1058 (talk) 13:44, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
North and South Brother Islands, New York → North and South Brother Islands – No disambiguation necessary per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The target already redirects to the current page name. – epic genius (talk) 15:50, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:45, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- @Epicgenius: There are several pairs of islands called The Brothers or similar. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 22:45, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- Agree with AA. See the disambiguation pages North Brother Island and South Brother Island. There is a necessity for the "New York" disambiguator. BMK (talk) 22:52, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
- (Apparently I didn't get this...) OK, but there was no disambiguator before. The old name was North and South Brother Islands, and there was never a North and South Brother Islands (disambiguation), so per WP:COMMONNAME, the article should be North and South Brother Islands. epic genius (talk) 02:39, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- It really has nothing to do with COMMONNAME. The article is at the common name of the islands, North and South Brother Islands. The "New York" is simply a disambiguator to distinguish it from the islands of the same name in India, Connecticut, etc. BMK (talk) 03:39, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Incidentally, check my move in January 2014 when I merged the two articles. At that time they had the disambiguator of "East River" You then moved it to a title without a disambiguator in December, with the claim that because they had been merged none was needed, a claim I don't understand, given the existence of other North/South Brother Islands. BMK (talk) 03:44, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Because you seem confused, I have created North and South Brother Islands, Connecticut, whicg merged two sub-stub articles, and North and South Brother Islands, India, and also North and South Brother Islands as a disambiguation page. BMK (talk) 04:07, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- I think I confused you, not the other way around. I mean that WP:PRIMARYTOPIC applies to this pair of islands. epic genius (talk) 15:47, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose: I find it hard to judge that one set of uninhabited islands fits WP:PRIMARYTOPIC better than another. Fitnr 18:25, 8 November 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose. No evidence presented that these islands are the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Zarcadia (talk) 22:56, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
