Importance of page discussion

I think the importance of this topic is pretty clear. With over 18,000 officers having been killed in the line of duty in the United States, the significance of the arguably most-comprehensive memorial is clear.

How about a group honoring the victims of police terror, which far outnumber the few cops who have been killed while instituting it? Redflagflying 17:50, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

If you can find a website as dedicated to spreading fanatical anti-police hate propaganda as you are, then feel free to put it on Wikipedia also. 18,000 dead in a nation only 230 years old(average of 78 per year) might seem like a "few" to someone who can't appreciate the sacrafices and hardships our brave men and women in blue have to deal with, but fortunantly I think most of our population is more understanding then that. By "understanding" do you mean brainwashed and beaten into respecting/fearing their oppressors? No working class person feels safer when they see a cop. They all get nervous, walk straighter, turn their hats around to the front, slow down in their car, turn the music down, and become overtaken with fear until the moment is over. Period. That's absurd. Any reasonable person, "working class" or otherwise, can understand and respect the dangers police face every day and the importance of their job, regardless of weather or not they like being around them. Thankfully most do. Only a small group of hate filled fanatics and criminals can't. I see right where you fit in. Period. User:Chainclaw 02:48 11 July 2007 (UTC)

How about, WE ARE ALL AMERICANS? Police, alleged criminals, the president of the United States, people finding cures for cancers, homeless people, Wall Street CEOS, gang members (those last two are synonymous anymore), stay at home parents, high school kids, doctors, preachers, fast food workers, military, seasonal workers, mechanics, artists -- etc. -- we are all Americans, and we need to start acting like we are all in this together. You know what they say, "A house divided cannot stand" - if people can't get along, it can ruin it for everyone. EVERYONE needs to take it down a few notches. Rename/Move page

I propose that we move/rename this page to:

Officer Down Memorial Page

It is normal for articles on Wikipedia to drop the ", Inc." and the end and a "the" at the beginning. If you even look at their website they do it like this:

_The Officer Down Memorial Page, _Inc.

Putting the beginning and end in smaller font.

We make this page a REDIRECT.

Inflammatory Statements Associated with this Group

On Facebook today, I saw this inflammatory graphic that says, "WANT TO KNOW WHERE RACIAL TENSION AND CULTURAL DIVIDE COMES FROM? 749 Law Enforcement Officers have fallen in the line of duty since B.H. Obama took office, with no special recognition from the White House. A man robs a convenience store and assaults a cop; the White House sends three representatives to his memorial service. source: www.odmp.org Culture Crisis in America."

When I emailed the head of research, Steve Weiss, relating this graphic to him, along with detailed information about President's Obama's participation every May in the National Peace Officers Memorial Service Day, his response was, "We have never provided any statistics to anyone with regard how infrequently President Obama acknowledges the sacrifices made by Law Enforcement officers in the United States. Additionally, we have no control over what people post in the internet or how they use our publicly available statistics on Line of Duty Deaths."

I'm not dumb - "how INFREQUENTLY PRESIDENT OBAMA ACKNOWLEDGES," is inflammatory in and of itself. But yes, you DO have control when someone attaches your name to their graphic, yes you do.

I don't feel that the ODMP should be sticking its nose into politics - if you want to be a non-profit that just wants to catalog all fallen officers, then you have to live with the fact that there are fallen officers who do NOT share the politics or prejudices on which this propaganda is based. If you don't want to anger the American citizens who are sick of our president being lynched, then it might behoove the ODMP to do a Cease-and-Desist to the people who CITE YOU in their graphics that show discrimination. Because I might contact my Senator and ask him to look into the matter.
