Okanogan Country
editI am wondering why okanogan COUNTRY redirects to okanogan COUNTY? Okanogan country is a general region that includes not only okanogan county but also Ferry County, the southern okanogan highlands of british columbia and small parts Douglas and grant Counties. It would seem that okanogan Country is a distinct entity from o. county Kevmin 22:41, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting; I wasn't aware that "Okanogan Country" was current stateside; note teh creation of a georegion cat, so far used only in B C - Category:Okanagan Country, which I just added "see also Okanogan County" to; and vice versa on the Okanogan County catpage. Could you come up with a rough map of the American part of the Okanagan Country? And maybe Okanogan County should be a subcat of teh Category:Okanagan Country, though then I'd ahve to find a anme to specify the Canadian-side half of it (Category:Okanagan is a possibility, as "Okanagan Country" in BC is admittedly a bit old-fashioned sounding in terms of how people usually refer to the region).Skookum1 (talk) 15:57, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Namesake
editIf Okanogan County is indeed named for a man, it is likely this guy:

3rd?
editI created the link after reading it on an official Washington Website but I've notice two counties in California and Aroostook in Maine are bigger and I haven't even checked NV or AZ.
Okanogan County is the 54 th largest county in the lower 48. (TM)
"Deserts" - names?
editOsoyoos, BC, makes much of its claim to be "Canada's only desert", as if other parts of BC weren't also desrt-like. The authors of Nk'mip Desert are pretty single-minded; that's not a name anyone else uses but is part of a branding effort by the Nk'mip Winery/Resort....I've heard "South Okanagan Desert" but if the "desert" extends into Washington (as surely it must), maybe Okanagan Desert/Okanogan Desert is preferable; if anyone in Washington even defines the region as a desert. At their most conceited, Osoyoos boosters will claim it's the northward limit of the Sonoran Desert, which betrays their complete lack of geographical awareness. Anyone here have notes on the ecology/environment/biome of the US Okanogan?Skookum1 (talk) 16:01, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Loomis link here is wrong
editIt links to a former town in Pacific County, Washington, also named Loomis. Apparently all towns and cities in Okanogan County link to the wrong Loomis! The irony is that Okanogan County's Loomis still exists. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trobster (talk • contribs) 06:47, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Area comparison
editA user appears to believe that total area is more relevant than land area when discussing comparisons of Okanogan County's size with particular states. Since Okanogan County is landlocked, using total area in its comparison to Connecticut is misleading, since Connecticut's total area includes coastal / territorial waters: see List of U.S. states and territories by area.
