Notable Releases?

Needs a list of Orion home video and anime releases

This info in going to be hard, as info just five years old is getting harder to find, stuff like the Orion catalog will be damn-near impossible. To help, the re-release of Never Say Never Again published about eight years ago has the Orion logo on it.

I do recall that The Terminator was an Orion release. But it seems like the rights of this company's assets have been moved around so much, it's hard to say what is what without getting the original film reel for copyright purposes from the Library of Congress, and even then, a commercial projector would be needed to review the film, though I suppose that the copyright filings may have the info present with the material thereof. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coffee4binky (talk • contribs) 06:41, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

How is it that First Blood (the first Rambo film) is not included as one of the notable films? I still get goosebumps when I hear the Rambo theme song over the Orion Pictures logo shot. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that anytime I see the Orion Pictures logo, the first thing that pops up in my head is First Blood. Then, of course, Robocop. Orion Interactive?

Found this video of Orion Interactive on YouTube. At least one other user on YouTube suggested that we should add Orion had a video game division, but we don't have much info to go on. Streamline Pictures

Did somebody forget that Orion bought Streamline Pictures in 1994 I think. I have many Streamline anime videos, some with the old-ass Streamline train logo, and many with the coming-out-of-the-lava logo. Also, many movies that Streamline, with their numerous distributors, were in mono and letterbox, while under Orion, the movies were pan-and-scanned, but greatly cleaned-up! No, that's not quite right. They didn't buy Streamline, Streamline entered into a video distribution agreement with them. Orion's cashflow problems were likely what helped kill the latter company not long after. Only a handful of titles (the ones where Streamline had film elements from theatrical release) were given a new pan and scan transfer, since Orion required it. I deleted the reference to Akira in the Notable Pictures section, because they did not distribute Akira theatrically, nor initially on home video in any format. Their only involvement was the re-release of the VHS after acquiring the Streamline catalog. -contrib. by J. Sevakis

Space Probe Taurus (1965) by Orion Pictures

Orion Pictures has been around longer than the Wikipedia article states. I just watched a movie called Space Probe Taurus of theirs from 1965! I think you saw the Orion logo at the beginning of that film because it was distributed by American International Pictures which was acquired by Filmways in 1978. Filmways in turn was acquired by Orion in 1982 as this article notes. The Space Probe Taurus version shown on AMC was likely modified from the original to include the Orion logo animation. Maybe there should be a brief parenthetical in the Filmways sections of this article noting the AIP acquisition. bzzne (talk) 19:59, 8 February 2019 (UTC)

Orion didn't release this particular film. It was released by Embassy Pictures and is owned by StudioCanal while MGM via Orion has the home video rights because it was included in the Epic library via Nelson Entertainment 2001:5B0:2568:4638:B1E0:5156:3DEB:9190 (talk) 21:39, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
