Talk:Palestinian casualties of war

Latest comment: 10 months ago by 68.151.237.146

The bias of those numbers is important to note hamas tactics of hiding amongst civilians to cause greater civil outrage at the victim when they are finally forced to engage with the enemy (hamas) these factors can never be separated and deemed truthful. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.151.237.146 (talk) 21:43, 21 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Numbers Biased

edit

Number are easily manipulated and are unreliable. Sources (especially the older the conflict) give different numbers of deaths. This article mostly just has one number.

I propose a remake of this that generally compares deaths due to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neonsummer2 (talkcontribs) 12:09, 13 March 2012 (UTC) I find the heading entirely misleading, and I hope, it is not intentionally so. It makes it look as though every single victim of the conflict was a "Palestinian" and fails to note that even one death among the thousands noted may have been Jewish "Palestinians", especially in the early days, when that's what the phrase "Palestinian" meant. Failing to note that there were many deaths among Britons and Jews in the Mandatory period makes the list at best meaningless, and at worst, propagandistic. And a list of Palestinian victims of violence should also include numbers killed in Black September and by Syrian forces during the Lebanese civil war.Reply

Otherwise I am generally a big fan of Wikipedia. dfineberg@eastlink.ca — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.222.214.221 (talk) 16:29, 17 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

This is badly conceived article

edit

This article seems bad to me. Why does it just have Palestinians who died JUST in "war". Everyday Palestinians die due to roadblocks in West Bank blocking them from medical treatment or targeted killings by Israeli military upon militants in Gaza. This article ignores that.

I propose we remake this into "Palestinians killed since (whatever date)" . OR someone should just create a new one citing the Palestinian Red Cross; Bt'elem; Israeli military numbers; etc focusing on Palestinian deaths since maybe 2000 breaking it down by militants, civilians. To make it less biased I would also suggest including Israelis and make it a "fatalities due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict since 2000". That way its inclusive. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neonsummer2 (talkcontribs) 12:05, 13 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Palestinians in the 1948 war

edit

In the 1948 war who were the Palestinian belligerents/militants? All I see for the sources is a sparse webpage and some unnamed book. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.168.46.39 (talk) 08:08, 26 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

1920-1948 period

edit

I just fixed a layout issue and updated the numbers for the 1929 Palestine riots. The only issue that I had is that the article is about 'Casualties suffered by Palestinians in war', but the definition of Palestinians prior to 1948 are different of those today, so I wasn't sure if to keep the jewish numbers or keep only arab. (also I am not sure that war is the right word) --Mor2 (talk) 22:49, 9 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

The conflicts should have dates next to them (all of them, not just some). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.115.80.163 (talk) 11:40, 26 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

1948 war casualties

edit

The numbers of Palestinian casualties mentioned by the source used is 3000 (according the references given) while someone inserted the number of 23 000 casualties. If there is no additional and conflicting sources and no objection on this issue I will replace after the 24 hours period, the incorrect numbers with the numbers given in the source.--Tritomex (talk) 23:16, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

That is fine. The figures range from 3,000 to 13,000. The 23,000 figure is not cited. Kingsindian  23:42, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Axis air raids

edit

A considerable number of Arab civilians was killed in the bombing of Haifa. A raid on the 21 September 1940 on the Arab part of town left some 40 persons dead and 68 wounded, most of them Arabs. Among the dead during the bombing of Tel Aviv was an Arab family of seven (one woman and five children) from Summayl.--ארינמל (talk) 04:14, 8 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

1948 Casualties

edit

Seriously, how is the "Total Caualties" only 3,000 when the number of the other columns are much higher? In addition, the 11,047 number seems rather low: https://www.dailysabah.com/mideast/2014/08/02/since-1948-israel-has-targeted-civilians-numbers-indicate gives 20,000 and https://www.aa.com.tr/en/middle-east/palestinians-mark-71-years-since-1948-catastrophe/1479093 gives 15,000. In table of casualties of 1920–1948, entry for the 1936-1939 Arab Revolt in Palestine, the source doesn't specify whether the deaths were of combatants or civilians. Also, on the table of casualties for 1948-2021, Benny Morris lists 3000-5000 Palestinians killed, almost all non-combatants attempting to return home.

Change table entries as follows:

"1936–1939 Arab revolt in Palestine British Empire British Army, Haganah, Arab High Command.[2][better source needed] British and Jewish forces 562; Palestinian Arabs ca.5,000 5,000 15,550 of which,15,000 Arab Palestinians. 18,000–24,000"
