I thought that a pandit was a kind of family guru. Andries 19:30, 16 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Nope. --LordSuryaofShropshire 17:45, Apr 6, 2004 (UTC)
In the second half of the 19th century, the term was used to denote native surveillors who explored regions to the north of India for the British. Is surveillor a real word? -FZ 15:39, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- surveyor. Issue closed. --Wisdood (talk) 12:25, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
other usage
editShould there also be reference to the contemporary (I think mostly US) use of the term to refer to a political or intellectual commentator? I'm not sure where or when this began, or how widespread it is, but I've seen it used in WP (examples: Bob Kerrey, Henry Kissinger, Thomas Mann). -FZ 15:38, 21 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- someone has added the reference of pundit, since. --Wisdood (talk) 12:25, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
