Fair use rationale for Image:Cuffti3.gif

Image:Cuffti3.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. Merger?

This article overlaps with that for the Infantry_Regiment_Großdeutschland article. Either we combine them into a single article covering GD's entire history, or we keep the current structure of 2 articles, but strictly separate info between the two to prevent redundancies. helmet insignia

in early editions of Guy Sajers The Forgotte Soldier a soldier is displayed on the front cover wearing a helmet with Waffen SS insignia. Recent editions of this admittedly controversial book show the same picture but the soldier is wearing a helmet with regular Heer insignia. The divisional badge -a German helmet in profile- has anything to do with that of the right-wing nationalistic militia "Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten" (Steel Helmet)?

Novotny as reference

Hi, I would like to remove Novotny from the list of references:

• Novotny, Alfred (2002). The good soldier: from Austrian social democracy to communist captivity with a soldier of Panzer-Grenadier Division Grossdeutschland. Bedford, Pa: Aberjona Press. ISBN 0966638999.

This book is a memoir from a participant and therefore not a reliable source in the context of this article, unless they are specifically called out as such in the body of an article (i.e. to describe a POV of a member of the unit). Thoughts? --K.e.coffman (talk) 21:09, 21 November 2015 (UTC)

Regiment vs Division

It appears that Panzer-Grenadier-Division Großdeutschland and Infantry Regiment Großdeutschland cover the same unit.

The Division article, for example, opens with:

• The unit originally started out as a ceremonial guard unit in the 1920s and by the late 1930s had grown into a regiment of the Wehrmacht. The regiment would later be expanded and renamed Infantry Division Großdeutschland in 1942, and after significant reorganization was renamed Panzergrenadier Division Großdeutschland in May 1943. In November 1944, while the division retained its status as a panzergrenadier division, some of its subordinate units were expanded to divisional status, and the whole group of divisions were reorganized as Panzerkorps Großdeutschland.

The Regiment article opens with:

• The Infantry Regiment Großdeutschland (German: Infanterie-Regiment "Großdeutschland"; "Greater Germany" Infantry Regiment) was an élite German Army ceremonial and combat unit which saw action during World War II. Originally formed in 1921 it was known as the Wachregiment Berlin. Renamed Infanterie-Regiment Großdeutschland in 1939 the regiment served in the campaigns in France and the Low Countries. It then served exclusively on the Eastern Front until the end of the war. It was destroyed near Pillau in May 1945.

No, you are not. A regimental-sized formation can have a stand-alone article. The regiment article refers to the regiment, which retained regimental status throughout the war even when it was part of the similarly named division. Use of the Eszett in an English Wiki

While I know that ß equals ss, does the average Wikipedia user know this? I think the article should be changed with the first sentence should reflect that the German spelling uses the ß.Pennsy22 (talk) 05:03, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
