"Racist" antics by college fans were not really racist?
editI read the citations regarding what opposing fans did to Ewing in his college years. The "can't read" ones were in response to him allegedly not qualifying academically (was this confirmed one way or the other?). As for what happened in Syracuse, they are called the Orangemen so it's not surprising a Syracuse fan would throw an orange. Now if that had been a banana thrown OTOH...
Bottom line I don't believe either of these were racially motivated and the article should be adjusted accordingly.75.81.253.160 (talk) 23:06, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Patrick Ewing is American
editHe was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and lived there until he was 11 or something, but then he moved the U.S. and after living there for so long he is now an American citizen (I don't know the specific chain of events). He played for the U.S. basketball team in both 1984 and 1992. 203.214.43.194 12:14, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

Knicks Won't Win with Ewing
editThough I don't have the news reports to back it up, during the Jordan eras the only thing I heard fron NY sports radio, and newspapers, was how the Knicks would never win a Championship while they had Ewing. He just wasn't good enough. Funny thing, as soon as he retires the Knicks stop making the playoffs. When he was there the Knicks were a perennial contender, as soon as he leaves they're a joke. Looks like those sports experts were a little mistaken. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.238.49.65 (talk) 20:03, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

MUTOMBO: [Sipping a virgin strawberry daiquiri] I like your restaurant, Yao. It's made for 7-footers and guys like Patrick Ewing, who is really 6'9". [Ewing has always been listed as 7 feet.]
EWING: Hey, I may be 6'9", but I'm a bad 6'9". And what about you? When I first met you, you told me you were from Zaire.

Bus pelted with rocks - probably not
editThe article cited to support the "pelted with rocks" statement says the team bus was "frequently was rocked by opposing schools". That's not the same thing. Rocking a bus is not pelting it with rocks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 140.90.233.67 (talk) 17:01, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Template:Current added
editIt's being reported that Ewing will be next HC of Georgetown, but it doesn't appear to be wholly substantiated. In light of that, I have added Template:Current to this article. pbp 19:30, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Infobox statistics
editWhat should be emphasized in Patrick Ewing's infobox career stats? User:Sabbatino insists on points, rebounds, assist being the standard and reverted User:Sorcererzthunder replacing blocks instead of assists, when there is no consensus for this arbitrary standard. If that was the case, Template:Infobox basketball biography would have hardwired them specifically. Ewing is more prolific as a shotblocker than a passer and this should be emphasized like in other articles of his peers like Dikembe Mutumbo, Hakeem Olajuwon, and David Robinson. Other examples of career statistic categories not being rigid in terms of pt, rb, ast are John Stockton and Alvin Robertson. Morbidthoughts (talk) 17:07, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Morbidthoughts: It is a common knowledge in basketball that the main statistics are points, rebounds and assists. The statistics are listed in that order in about every basketball-related website. Many of the listings in Wikipedia have been done many years ago and editors listed whatever they wanted. You ought to start a discussion at WT:NBA since more people will see it there. – Sabbatino (talk) 18:30, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- They may be the traditional triple double categories, but they do not establish the standard for listed categories in the infoboxes. The listed categories should be pertinent to their importance in the player's career. I will list this discussion on the project pages. Morbidthoughts (talk) 19:46, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
Statistics like Blocks and Steals should be listed if the player was very prolific in that category. For example, Manute Bol averaged 3.3 bpg and he averaged 0.3 assists so definitely blocks should be listed as he was obviously more prolific with blocks. Also, if the NBA and Basketball-Reference keep track of the steals and blocks, they might as well should be allowed to be listed if a player was very good at doing either of those two. There isn't even a rule saying you can't list blocks or steals for stats here on wiki. Sorcererzthunder (talk) 20:09, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- I agree, I think the statistics shown in the infobox should be flexible, depending on the player. For example, Bol's, Mark Eaton's and Shawn Bradley's block numbers are much more relevant to their articles than their assist numbers. -- Alvaldi (talk) 14:28, 22 April 2020 (UTC)
- List all 5 categories, in one line (2 if it wraps), with no discrimination among the 5, and no other categories else, whenever possible. (For older players, only points and rebounds are available, for example.) Howard the Duck (talk) 06:06, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- The current infobox template only allows for 3 statistical categories. Morbidthoughts (talk) 06:13, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- This is Wikipedia. Howard the Duck (talk) 06:36, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hold on, I'm making a mock-up at that template's sandbox. Howard the Duck (talk) 06:40, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- LOL I can't make it work without screwing it up, and I don't wanna screw up even the sandbox. :p Howard the Duck (talk) 06:51, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- The current infobox template only allows for 3 statistical categories. Morbidthoughts (talk) 06:13, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
- Keep it simple per MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, and leave at three categories. I'm ambivalent if the same three categories are listed for all players. In either case, the body can have the standard career stat table, which shows more stats than the infobox.—Bagumba (talk) 14:05, 26 April 2020 (UTC)
NBPA rep
editWhy doesn't this page mention, anywhere, that Ewing was the president of the NBA players' union, especially during a lockout? Seems like pretty crucial information. 2601:14D:4480:9260:2961:2764:6E4D:9614 (talk) 00:04, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
